Marilla and Anne learn about Matthew's doing and, during a lively confrontation with his sister, Matthew suffers a heart attack. He survives, but he's confined in bed, while Anne and Marilla visit the bank, which is going to pull the loan back. Anne and Marilla decide to raise the money to save their home by selling all precious items and putting an ad in the paper looking for boarders; Marilla grimly announces that they are to let Jerry go because they can't pay him anymore. Anne and Jerry head to Charlottetown, where Anne deals with a tough pawnbroker and invents adventurous stories about the items to up their prices. Anne decides to contribute to the cause by selling her puff-sleeved dress and meets Miss Jeannie, who recognizes her as "Matthew's Anne". Anne encounters Gilbert, who is working on the docks and trying to get on a ship: they apologize and declare a truce; meanwhile, Jerry gets attacked and his money stolen by two mysterious men. A guilt-ridden Matthew confesses to his sister that he wishes he'd die, leaving Marilla and Anne his life insurance money. Anne and beaten-up Jerry spend the night at Josephine Barry's house and, after learning about the Cuthberts' situation, Josephine hires Jerry to work at Green Gables and gifts Anne a George Eliot book containing money, claiming that "love isn't charity". A desperate Matthew tries to take his life, but he's saved by Miss Jeannie and Marilla, who angrily accuses him of wanting to leave her and Anne. Matthew apologizes and welcomes Anne back home. With Christmas approaching, Anne sells her service as a cleaner to the families of Avonlea, and the Cuthberts take in two boarders, emerging from their financial crisis.

Kovacs decides to seek out Bancroft to learn why he was dropped into Riker's sleeve and Miriam tries to seduce him offering his freedom and a new sleeve if he stops his investigation. He refuses and heads to an infected area where Bancroft is and he explains why he selected that specific sleeve. Then he dies completely infected and is worshiped by the infected people while he is sleeved to another clone in a clean area. Poe gives a lead to Kovacs where Bancroft was on the night that he died. He goes with Ortega and they find a footage of Isaac and Bancroft, uncovering a secret.

Taverner confronts Judd, telling him his calls to far-right allies after Hobden's visit resulted in Black's death and compromised the mission. Tearney returns from the US and orders all loose ends tied off; Taverner further lies to her about the operation. Curly drives Larry and Hassan to a forest to stage the beheading. Larry frees Hassan and attacks Curly with an axe but flees, enabling a wounded Curly to recapture Hassan. Larry reaches the port of Harwich but is shot dead by the Dogs on Tearney's orders; Duffy plants a weapon on Larry's corpse to frame him. Curly prepares to kill Hassan at what he thinks is a Norman castle, which Hassan identifies as a folly. Lamb, River, Min, and Louisa, guided by Roddy, track them there. After a shootout with River, Curly is knocked unconscious by Hassan with a rock. The Dogs arrive, but the team prevents them from executing Curly, openly defying First and Second Desk. In the aftermath, Roddy tells River Sid's records have been erased, suggesting she may still be alive. Duffy kills Hobden. It is revealed that Charles Partner was the former Director General of MI5, whose death was reported a suicide after foreign blackmail; Lamb tells Standish he gave Partner the gun he used to kill himself, but a flashback reveals that Lamb himself killed Partner on David Cartwright's orders.

Thanks to a Chief Superintendent who is obsessed with damage-limitation, Janet is charged with manslaughter though Annie makes sure that she gets off. A friend of the missing Leanne leads Alan to believe that Payne had a female accomplice to lure the girls into his car and Lucy is the obvious suspect, though she denies it, at the same time admitting she knew her husband was a killer. She also blackmails Maggie into paying for a lawyer for her though Maggie counters by ringing the press to explode the 'accomplice' story. Investigations show Lucy to have been the victim in a famous abuse case as a child and she is diagnosed as mentally ill and incapable of having a mind to murder. Alan must discover to what extent she really was involved in the killings and if she knows where to find Leanne, alive or dead.

Two police officers are called to an apparent domestic where they find Lucy Payne unconscious. Investigating a noise in the cellar they are attacked by her husband Marcus, who kills one of them with a machete before the other, Janet Taylor, knocks him out and he is arrested. D.C.I. Alan Banks comes to the house and finds the corpses of four missing blonde girls, though there is no sign of Leanne Wray, who also disappeared. The case is hampered when, due to an interfering hospital doctor perturbed that Janet put Payne in a coma, Alan is shadowed by annoying D.S. Annie Cabbot from the Professional Standards Department. Lucy, a frequent victim of her husband's violence, cannot help trace Leanne, being unaware that her husband was a mass killer and also unaware that he was having sex with Maggie, the concerned neighbour who wanted her to leave him and who called the police to the Paynes' house. After a chilly first meeting Annie suggests to Alan that they have a drink together and he agrees to, whilst wondering if she is using him for career advancement. Just as they are getting cosy, they get the call to say that Payne has died. Now there is nobody able to locate Leanne.

Bernard is analyzing Maeve; however she dominates him instead, showing her power. William is tied to a chair asking Logan to let Dolores and him go. Logan stabs Dolores' belly and exposes her mechanical components to show that she is a robot. However Doleres shoots the soldiers and flees and William promises that will find her. Bernard asks Dr. Ford to recover his full memory and uses Clementine to help him to get information from Dr. Ford. Bernard learns that he killed also Elsie. Meaves make a deal with Hector showing that she knows his past and his future. Dolores has entwined visions of her present and past.
