World War II is raging, but in the French village of Nouvion, café owner René Artois wants only a quiet life, plus some slap and tickle with his waitress Yvette behind his sour wife Edith's back. To this end, he keeps in with two German officers who are regular café patrons, Kurt von Strohm and Hans Geering. He is therefore alarmed when Michelle of the Resistance declares his house a safe house for two British airmen who have been shot down and who don't speak a word of French. He is also to host Roger Leclerc, a forger and old flame of his mother-in-law Fanny, who was sprung from jail by the Resistance but, due to a misunderstanding, mistakes Hubert Gruber, a German officer who turns out to be gay and fancies René, for the forger. Geering and von Strohm discover the hidden British airmen, but when Herr Otto Flick of the Gestapo arrives, they agree to help. This is because Flick is after a favourite painting of Hitler's, "The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies," which they wish to keep for themselves. To this end, they give their uniforms to the escaping airmen.

Poor mister Pace has gone mad in the Tower before the innocent secretary is released.

Set in the near-future of 2007, Harry Wyckoff is a successful patent attorney living in Beverly Hills who is on the brink of becoming a partner in the agency he works at. He has two children with his wife Grace, a perfect housewife and the owner of Hiroshima, a retro fashion boutique. Their children are 11-year-old child actor Coty, who has just been cast for a new "Channel 3" series, and the ever-mute 4-year-old Deirdre. Grace's mother is Josie Ito, a vain chic socialite and interior decorator of strong will and numerous shady connections. At night, Harry is plagued by strange dreams of a rhinoceros and a faceless woman who has palm tree tattooed on her body. One day, Harry is visited by a former lover of his college days, the alluring Paige Katz, who asks for his help in tracking down her son Peter, who disappeared five years earlier. Paige is closely associated with the "Wild Palms Group", a shady media organization headed by the charismatic Senator Tony Kreutzer, who is also the leader of the religious sect "Church of Synthiotics". Kreutzer's TV station "Channel 3" is about to start a new television format, "Church Windows", which creates a virtual reality on the basis of popular shows like sitcoms, using a new technique called "Mimecom". Due to conflict of interest, in which Harry's firm is going up against Wild Palms in court, their meetings raise suspicions and cost Harry his promotion. Afterwords, Harry quits and gladly accepts a job offered by Kreutzer as Wild Palms business consultant. Meanwhile, Grace soon becomes alienated by Harry's long hours at his new job and his past association with Paige. Grace visits her father Eli Levitt, a former history professor who is currently imprisoned for terrorism, and who is the founder of the "Friends" sect. In this politically and socially divided early 21st century society, a new right-wing political group, called the "Fathers", dominate large sections in politics and in the media. A libertarian movement, the "Friends", opposes the government, often making use of underground guerrilla tactics. Harry's best friend, Tommy Laszlo, takes him to meet Chickie Levitt, (who is Eli Levitt's son from another relationship), a virtual reality boy genius and technology wizard who warns Harry about the dangers of Wild Palms and it's media control. Also, Tully Woiwode, is an infamous and popular visual artist and toast-of-the-town (and Tommy Laszlo's secret lover) whose sister is abducted by men connected to Josie and her "Fathers" connections.

S3E3

Will travels to Lecter's childhood home in Lithuania in further search of him. Lecter and Du Maurier kill another man working at the Capponi Library after inviting him to dinner, and continue to discuss Graham and the fact that Lecter is drawing Graham and the other men at the library to him. Meanwhile, Jack Crawford arrives in Palermo in search of Will and meets with Pazzi, who shows Crawford the case photographs of Dimmond's heart, and they have a conversation about Lecter. Will discovers a distraught man in an underground cell in the home, where he meets Chiyoh, the attendant to Lecter's aunt. She reveals that Lecter's sister, Mischa, was murdered and cannibalized by the prisoner but he doesn't believe this. Elsewhere, Du Maurier asks Hannibal about his past and he tells her about Mischa and Du Maurier deduces that Hannibal ate Mischa to "forgive her". Chiyoh asks Graham why he is still searching for Lecter and he responds that he has never known himself better than when he is with Lecter. Graham removes the prisoner from the cell and turns him loose; he attacks Chiyoh but she kills him. Distraught at what she has done, she realizes that Graham set the man free on purpose to see if she was capable of killing, confirming his curiosity. Chiyoh agrees to help Will find Lecter, saying that with the prisoner dead, she has no reason to remain at the house. Before they leave, Graham fashions the corpse of the prisoner into the form of a dragonfly, and displays it in the underground chamber. Lecter and Du Maurier have another discussion about Graham and come to the conclusion that the only way for Lecter to forgive him is to eat him.

After the events at Lecter's house, Graham (Hugh Dancy) wakes up in the hospital, having survived the stabbing. He then receives a visitor: Abigail Hobbs (Kacey Rohl), who managed to survive her wounds. She says that Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) carefully knew where to cut them in order to survive, as their wounds were "surgical".

Abigail reprimands Graham for conspiring against Lecter, stating that she still believes in Lecter despite him having wounded her. Graham remembers a conversation he had with Lecter where he described his "memory palace" to him, which Graham deduces to be the Norman Chapel at Palermo. Eight months later, Graham and Abigail visit the Chapel, where they analyze Lecter's view of himself as a God. The local police are investigating the Chapel after finding Dimmond's torso in the form of a human heart. Graham is approached by Chief Investigator Rinaldo Pazzi (Fortunato Cerlino), who has traveled from Florence. Pazzi is aware of Lecter and Graham, having investigated both of them before his arrival.

Lecter is known to him as "Il Mostro" or "The Monster of Florence" and Pazzi is linking him to a murder committed twenty years prior, where a couple was murdered and the corpses displayed like Sandro Botticelli's painting, Primavera, and for which another man was convicted. Pazzi hands a photograph of Dimmond's mutilation to Graham. As he is using his "ability", he is haunted when the mutilated corpse starts transforming into the stag before he snaps back to reality. He then talks with Abigail, and he finally remembers that Abigail died before he was taken by the ambulance. She disappears while Lecter is shown to be watching Graham from a distance in the Chapel.

Pazzi meets with Graham, who deduces that Lecter hasn't left the city and is actually at the Chapel at that moment. They descend into the Chapel's catacombs in pursuit of Lecter, but they fail to find him. Pazzi and Graham then have an argument about their purposes and Pazzi leaves. Graham continues investigating the catacombs. Knowing that Lecter is nearby, he says aloud, "I forgive you".

The company is particularly concerned as they had an employee go postal in a different office and wants to avoid another dangerous incident. One of the company's employees, Gary Lambert, is convinced that his boss Greg Pincus is literally a monster who no one else can see for what he really is. Lambert takes everyone, including Mulder, hostage but during the incident Mulder realizes that Lambert may not be the deranged madman everyone is making him out to be.
