star trek has taken over my life

This is Captain Kirk of the USS Enterprise speaking. We’ve entered the orbit of a planet not terribly unlike our own… save that it is exclusively populated by petty old queens.

They seem to have accepted Commander Spock as one of their own.

The scene in shore leave where Kirk slips up and says Spock's name during a backrub seems completely random until they beam down to the planet and you realize that the whole idea for the episode is that the characters need to control their thoughts or else be confronted by a dangerous fantasy. yeah

And they both slap

'90s Trek had the ideal budget for a Star Trek show. TOS had no money and had to make do with an ice cream cone glued to a dog. Disco has too much money and you can tell they don't have to control themselves at all. the happy medium is a show that overspent on sticking tubes to a guy last week so this week there's something creepy and mostly invisible happening in the same room we always go to

“reminder that x character did terrible things” spoken not in like a scoldy or judgemental way or that they need to repent for their sins or whatnot. but as in “i love my guy who sucks. why are you taking the sucks out of my guy. that’s literally the best part about them.”
