Anyway this post is about Dhaka muslin but it’s also about everything.

That being said, efforts to bring it back are underway, and they have been making amazing progress, and succeed in creating Dhaka Muslin yet again.

This is a pretty good updated article, it has a lot of the same info as the BCC one (which also discusses some of the revival efforts) but with more of a focus on that process, an update to the story, and it details some of the other ongoing projects working on the revival!

Here's the first weaver to manage to produce a finished piece in nearly 200 years, Al Amin.

His first piece was 300 threads, according to the article they have now been able to get into the 700s for thread counts, which is absolutely incredible.

Several projects are actually underway now each with different weavers and slightly different methods, producing fabric intended to meet or best the original!

And if you're curious, "okay but can it pass through a ring" yes! Yes they can!

All three of these photos are of pieces made in the modern century, photos by Wasiul Bahar!

The first photo is from 1956. It shows a Black woman watching members of the Ku Klux Klan (a terrorist, racist, far-right organization focused on white supremacy) walking along a sidewalk in Montgomery, Alabama (USA). I couldn't find the photo's author, but most sources state that it was taken in 1956.

The second photo shows members of the Patriot Front group (a white supremacist and nationalist group, formed in 2017, that openly advocates what they call "American Fascism") traveling on the subway during the 250th anniversary of the U.S. independence in Washington D.C., while a Black woman watches them. The photo is by photographer Cheney Orr, taken on July 4, 2026, 70 years after the first photo.

the second issue should be obvious but isnt: one of the central tenets of misogyny is that women are Irrational. this tenet underlies all aspects of patronizing oppression against women. “women cant be logical or rational, they are purely emotional and reactive” is a patriarchal myth that underlies misogyny in general. whenever a woman runs for president there is discourse about how you simply cant vote for her because shes going to nuke russia as soon as she gets her period. when we uncritically accept and perpetuate this belief, even upon ourselves, this is carrying water for patriarchal oppression. it isnt true, it has been debunked repeatedly in extensive scientific trials, and its just bottom floor, basement-level sexism. “girls cant be president because uterus make them crazy and weak.” believing this, perpetuating it, telling it to people, and thinking it about yourself is actively harmful

In case you haven't yet heard what's been evolving here on the east coast...

The NL government told Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation that they were not allowed to publicly state that Innu history in Labrador goes back further than 300 years, in the prepared cultural exhibit for Indigenous Peoples Day. Jodie Ashini, the cultural guardian behind the exhibit, refused to bow down to this colonial rewrite of history.

Subsequently, after a series of protests, NL Premier Tony Wakeham and Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Minister Lela Evans released a half-assed apology, instead of meeting the very simple demand from the Innu leaders: A written commitment to stop prompting a false colonial narrative. The Innu Nation rejected these "apologies", and officially closed the exhibit.

Miawpukek Mi'kmaq have already released an official statement of support. It is my personal hope that more First Nations on the Atlantic do the same. (The news is only just starting to spread here in NS.)

Medieval Toy Unearthed in Poland

A 800-year-old horse figurine was found during an excavation conducted as part of the construction of a new fire station in Toruń, a medieval town on the Vistula River in north-central Poland. The small clay horse was glazed and has a hole in its underside. Researchers think a stick may have fit into the hole so that playing children could pretend to make the horse gallop or use it as a puppet.

"After they overheard that ICE was at the courthouse to arrest someone, they improperly accessed court databases to determine who was not born in the United States," a DOJ detention filing says. "They then snuck every suspected illegal alien who was at the courthouse out a back door, where ICE, who was waiting in the parking lot for their target to leave the building, could not see them."
