My name is Soup. I am Cherokee, I speak a little Cherokee, and I live in Cherokee Nation territory. I enjoy making baskets and learning to speak more of our language. I'm always tired.
I turn my posts off if people get annoying. Tumblr does not always tell me when I have an ask in my inbox. Be patient.
I am not reconnecting, I have lived in Oklahoma since I was a child and I grew up speaking Cherokee at times with my grandmother, uncle, and my community, my dialect is from my family + community and my Cherokee may not look like yours. If what I speak looks different than what you are learning it is an opportunity to learn more, don't be rude.
I mostly tag in our language/syllabary, if you would like to try to understand it, a dictionary is here. Use the middle text box to search syllabary characters.
If you claim to be Cherokee I may ask you about it and I have the right to, this is cultural protocol and if you are claiming us you need to learn it. If you claim to be us and you have not done your genealogy or you are claiming to be outside of the three federally recognized tribes I do not want you following me (Freedmen excluded*).
I do not provide translations, I do not provide information for world building, if I see you speaking about us I may ask you a question - our tribe name is thrown around very frequently and it gets tiring over the years. If you are learning you have the right to ask questions but I also have the right to not answer any.
I do not allow minors to follow me and I am selective about who follows me. I provide counseling services to at need populations and generally have a stressful job, this blog is a hobby for me.
