10 Masculine Nouns that Take -У in Prepositional
The prepositional case in Russian is one of the easiest: most nouns simply take -E ending, and you don't have to think about their gender or whether their stems are hard or soft (sometimes linguistic speak sounds cheesy, I know).
However, there is a small group of masculine nouns that take -У in the prepositional case. It happened because a few centuries ago, there was a special case for location - the Locative case, and the ending -У is what's left of it. Later, the locative case merged with the prepositional, and now we have this mess of endings.
Here are 10 most frequent nouns that take -У in the prepositional case:
Год (year) - в году
Глаз (eye) - в глазу
Лес (forest) - в лесу
Ряд (row) - в ряду
Угол (corner) - на / в углу
Пол (floor) - на полу
Край (edge) - на краю (also possible на крае)
Сад (garden) - в саду
Снег (snow) - на / в снегу
Нос (nose)- на / в носу
Note: The ending -У only goes when you speak about locations; if this is prepositional of the subject of speech, then it is just the regular -Е ending: Я часто думаю о своём левом глазе.
I need to practice Russian more. I never use this blog lol.

This kills me so bad because in what universe is u like у.
у = o or a. Not u..
(to my Norwegian (language'd) brain at least)
I actually really hate all of those letter drills. Either the voice recordings are wrong or other people view english letters differently. And it's so pointless as well

I can’t speak for every screen reader, but if you listen to this post on VoiceOver it reads almost perfectly.
For those without a screen reader that transitions between English and Japanese so easily (or sight readers who can’t read Japanese): the symbols are Japanese Katakana. Each symbol represents a phonetic syllable. The entire post is just making puns with that, except for the first post, which is just OP being upset that [shi] and [tsu] look so similar.
This isn’t really a plain language transcription, but more of…a sort of translation?

Thank you for the translations. I knew the characters were forming jokes, but I didn’t have the energy to look up every single character.
Keep making jokes like this it’s the only katakana practice I get these days
I just started section two of Russian Duolingo and now my understanding of the phrase "у [меня/тебя/его] есть" is completely disproven.
Like, there doesn't seem to be any difference between у тебя есть [thing] & у тебя [thing].
And now apparently the "у" means like "at" [place]???
HOW sexy is it that Russian голод (gólod; "hunger") is cognate with Sanskrit गृध्र (gṛ́dhra, “desiring greedily”) and why is it 1375927/10

Language is so cool like yes
I need to be better at doing my Duolingo on Fridays, I keep missing them and needing to use a streak freeze.
the Russian word for exit reminds me of boycott lol.
it's Выход (pronounced "vykhot" according to Google translate). we all know v and b are similar. abs kh is obviously similar to c in boycott. so bycot. yeah.
