May I ask about the tomato hornworms? Why are they not allowed here, have they wronged you?
Oh yeah! I totally forgot how long Iāve had that as my blog title! Tomato horn worms are the caterpillar stage of a common New England moth called the āfive spotted hawk mothā. Theyāre also called tobacco horn worms, but the important part is they voraciously eat tomato and tobacco crops!
About a year ago (in 2019) I took a month long trip to rural Maine to volunteer at a farm and get some hands on agriculture knowledge. For a few weeks we were all dealing with a tomato hornworm infestation in the tomato greenhouses and it was crazy! They get really big and if you try to remove them from the tomato plant theyāre eating they āscreamā at you. Many a morning Iād spend walking through the greenhouses, hearing them scream at me, and picking them off tomato plants so they wouldnāt destroy this whole familyās livelihood.
So, Needless to say Iām not a fan of these nasty children. I included a vid as a scale for how big they would get (a medium sized one)
