I think much of what I read would be considered âpurple proseâ in the modern day. We are taught to write like scientists, use the easiest most effective possible word to communicate an idea. But how is one to consider the feeling of a life so removed from oneâs youth without constant rehashes of how the scenes of childhood are so long gone that they feel to a man like a dead comrade. That a boy who must harden his heart and march on in heavy boots may stumble upon a land that seems so unfamiliar to him and yet is where he came from.
How do you show a reader the whirlwind of emotions of a man descending into madness, running from himself and his mistakes without describing the storm drenching our hero. The water pooling on the bridge as he crosses from the known world to the unknown world. His reflection both in the puddles at his feet and the figure standing before him?
How do you juxtapose the sublime beauty of the alps with man made horrors beyond our main characterâs comprehension as he describes the world that brings him comfort as he aims to confront what took that all away?
Write your beautiful lines, similes, metaphors, subtle details that weave into the wider narrative so long as they contribute something. The curtains are never just blue.

Namor returned halfway to his previous post, back facing the shadows, palms grazing the grit of the railing. He overlooked the ceremony below. The milling bodies, the wailing, the souled screaming for the soulless.

It's crazy that The Acolyteâs cancellation has sparked important conversations about toxic fandoms and bigotry, and how these issues affect so many shows and films. It shows what many of us have known for a long timeâdiverse projects often get unfairly punished by studios for upsetting certain YouTubers and racist and misogynistic groups online.
Instead of supporting these fresh and bold stories, studios would rather cave to backlash, leaving unique projects like The Acolyte behind. It highlights the real challenges diverse creators and stories face, and how the industry often fails to stand by them.
Back in the day, shows were given the chance to find their audience with another season, unlike how things are handled in todayâs streaming world. I always point to Rings of Power as the perfect example of how not caving to bigots will benefit you. If you stand by the project and its creators, negative backlash wonât hurt the success of the seriesâit can thrive if the studio just believes in it. And it actually helps listening to the people who support the projects instead of the haters
Mercifully, I've never had an exchange this intense with my editor.
Literally me.
Right at this moment.

thinking about that post of people assuming ao3 has an algorithm and also about how bonkers persistent the view is that ao3 is social media lite. like with startling regularity I get comments saying something along the lines of "it's probably weird to comment on a fic this old--" no it isn't!!!! this is an archive I am literally just assuming you searched for a selection of specific tags or sorted by kudos or looked back on my pseud or any other number of completely normal ways to use an archive site ?? kill the tiktok ghost in your brain and comment on old stuff it's NOT weird

Anyone but The Black Girl, A Story of Shipping in Fandom
Table of Contents
Iâm not racist!!1!
Inexplicable reasons of dislike, not explained
Why that white girl who showed up for 2 minutes is more worthy of romantic affection than her
Sheâs strong; sheâs independent; she donât need no man
You canât trust her, you just canât
Stolen looks? Passionate kissing? Steamy sex scene? Sorry she doesnât have chemistry with him
Who cares if itâs canon?
Why that minor character white guy is more worthy of romantic affection than her
Heâs already in a relationship, so you canât ship Black Girl with him, sorry
If she doesnât have a weapon, if she canât fight, she should just be written out, because!
There are 200 white dudes on this show, we donât need Black Girl!
Whatâs a queer black woman?
Bonnie had great chemistry with so many of the men on the show. There were so many missed opportunities for Bonnie, relationship-wise. The fact is, after Jeremy cheated on Bonnie, they should have never gotten back together. That relationship was a waste of Bonnieâs time. When there were other options. What ships do you think should have been explored after Beremy in s3?
In season three, Bonnie and Klaus should have been explored instead of Klaus and Caroline. Bonnie, who had just broke up with Jeremy and was on the rebound. I could have seen them together, especially after Damon turned Abby into a vampire. Dark!Klonnie would have been super hot and it would have given us more Bennett/Mikaelson family dynamic, especially with Abby around. Like imagine if Klaus had invited Bonnie to the ball instead of Caroline. This was a missed opportunity for Bonnie's character to grow.
In season four, I would have voted for Kennett. They had the perfect setup once Bonnie had died for Jeremy and ended up being a ghost in the finale. Kol offered to work with Bonnie to make sure they didn't end up living on the other side. Bonnie rejected his offer for bullshit reason. I would have liked to see Bonnie take Kol's offer, and watch them work together and have hate sex.
This might have been the biggest waste of potential, and that was Bonnie and Kai in the prison world once Damon escaped. ALONE! This would have been such a good side arc from everything else that was going on. Imagine if we got to watch them travel to Portland instead of Bonnie being locked up in the truck of his car. What if Bonnie got to know Kai a little better, Kai got to know Bonnie a little better? Then they would have had hate sex worked together to get out the prison world. Instead of Bonnie making another sacrifice of her happiness.
So many missed opportunities when it came to Bonnie's own romance. The fact they forced Beremy back together in season 5. Or that Bonnie dated her step-brother. Why? Klonnie, Kennett, and Bonkai were much more intriguing pairings. Ones that would have elevated Bonnie's character.
Conclusion reached: Bonnie is relationship salt, she makes everyone taste better, including herself.

This whole 'Bonnie and Elena deserved better' shit started because y'all were mad that Caroline got the happy ending she deserved and for some reason that's not allowed. Caroline wasn't a bad friend, they were. Bonnie was going to cut her out entirely when she was turned into a vampire against her will. Elena constantly put people above her. If anyone deserved better, it was her.
I don't know where to start with this one so I'm gonna just. go through it quickly.
Bonnie deserved better on a grander scale than just in the happy ending regard, although I'm glad you're acknowledging what she got wasn't a happy ending.
Caroline's ending is happy? Her husband is dead and chose to save his nasty ass brother AND his ex girlfriend over living with her, her baby daddy ruined her school because she was off being an absentee mother no matter HOW you spin it, one of her daughters got turned into a heretic and the other she will presumably outlive, the love of her life (her own words in reference to Tyler) is dead and so is the guy she shook down for money sometimes. She will also go on to outlive Bonnie and Elena. But at least she's alive...?
Caroline was a terrible friend to everyone at one point or another, but special shout out goes to her being completely oblivious or willfully ignorant to Bonnie's feelings as far as Stefan was concerned after he murdered Bonnie's boyfriend in front of her, and to her constantly betraying Elena's trust in the name of Stefan.
Bonnie had trauma with vampires. And Caroline had just killed someone. Whether she could control herself or not, Bonnie witnessed that in some part. How dare she have complicated feelings on the matter?
Let's be serious here. Who was Elena supposed to put Caroline above? Jeremy, her little brother? Bonnie, her actual best friend? By the time she even got to the point she was putting Damon (because, let's face it, that's who you mean) above Caroline, Caroline was doing the same shit with Stefan. Piss up a rope. The only thing Caroline deserved was to get her ass beat at least once a season.
The truth is so easy to digest.
