its pointing to a social reality where male violence is predictable and women bear the cost. women do defend themselves and then they get arrested, jailed, disbelieved for it. thats the system failing them, not a lack of agency. pretending that recognizing patterns of violence means you dont see women as autonomous is just a way to avoid talking about the real problem.

A woman is a person born with at least one X chromosome and with the absence of a Y chromosome.

It’s fairly simple. People with Turner’s syndrome (XO) are ALWAYS female, and people with Klinefelter’s syndrome (XXY) are ALWAYS male, because the presence of the Y chromosome makes them male. And this isn’t my opinion by the way, this is medical literature. We’re also talking about sex here, not gender. This includes any variation of chromosomes - for example, the extremely rare genetic disorder, XXXYY, people with this disorder are ALWAYS MALE, even though they have more than one (and two!) X chromosomes, because the presence of the Y chromosome makes you male.

It’s important to understand exactly what chromosomes are and what they do. Chromosomes contain genetic information, and early in embryonic development, many genes activate at certain times to trigger crucial developmental stages.

In the case of sexual development, there is a gene on the Y chromosome called the SRY gene. When present and activated, this gene signals multiple other genes to begin male development patterns. In other words, it isn’t the presence of the Y chromosome itself that causes male development; it’s the activation of the SRY gene (which is located on the Y chromosome).

Swyer syndrome is a rare condition in which the Y chromosome either does not contain the SRY gene or contains a mutation that causes the SRY gene to never activate. Without activation of the SRY gene, female development is the default, so the embryo will develop as female (but not completely; without a second X chromosome there will be developmental complications).
