Then we meet Hama, who due to years of torture and hatred has found a way to turn the classic gentler waterbending ways into a weapon of destruction and manipulation, and honestly I can’t think of a better way to introduce people to the fact that things are never as clear cut as they seem.  We’ve thought of waterbenders as the good guys up until this point, so it’s jarring to find out that no, despite stereotypes and traditions, there are always going to be good and bad people in every culture/group, but that’s the point of the entire show.

At the end of Book 2 of LoK, Korra loses her connection to her past lives. She’s totally cut off from them even in the Avatar State, right?

Well Avatar Roku describes the Avatar State as “the combination of all [the Avatar’s] past lives”, meaning that when it is triggered, the Avatar has all the strength, wisdom, and skills of all the past Avatars. That’s why it’s so powerful, isn’t it?

Well, when Rava was destroyed and Korra lost her connection to her past lives, shouldn’t that logically mean that she loses her connection to all of their skills and strength? So all this:
