everytime someone says bolin only knows lavabending because hes fire nation im one step closer to having an aneurysm

his fire nation heritage has nothing to do with his understanding and ability to use his subelements.

bolin is uncommon amongst benders in that he is entirely self taught. mako learned from zolt, korra from masters around the world, katara from the nwt teachers, zuko from fire nation instructors and iroh, toph from the badgermoles. Which means he understands his element a lot differently than others, especially other earthbenders. His struggle with metalbending is because hes not used to feeling fine particles of dust or earth even when he can see them. He is still learning how to bend sand post canon in beach wars.

Lava is a lot more massive in terms of earth content becauss its just molten rock. He knows this. Metal is more than rock.
