Korra envisioned something different.

Daydreaming the moment it was found you were one of those select few blessed by the Harmonic Convergence with the ability to airbend, wanting nothing more than to show you the ropes and how far she’d come herself in airbending; even if that meant being uprooted from the city temporarily.

No one believed Raiko would hold his grudge for long. Especially not from a political standpoint.

With the opportunity of traveling the world and flying across villages and towns with those she’s closest to, it gave her more time to focus on something that’s been occupying her lately.

You.

Perhaps personally training you was more of an attempt to impress you, make you lean more towards her when it comes to the aspect of bending. She was a natural after all—excluding the difficulty of understanding airbending herself for some time—yet she has them all mastered!

Korra would imagine guiding you with gentle touches to your hips, unnecessary adjustments to your posture when performing basic movements, even offering heavily sugar filled compliments. The ones you seem to always enjoy from what she’s observed.

She truly believed this opportunity would steer things positively. She wanted her feelings affirmed, that what she was feeling was mutual.

Yet, things were going far differently.

The simplest of moves had you falling on your butt. You had too much spiritual energy to the point all of your bending came out in large bursts that you struggled to control. There was potential, but you need extra care.

You usually were trained whenever you and the rest were on the ground and had open space.

It was mostly a safety measure in case you may have accidentally caused some form of turbulence.

Currently, you laid on the ground, brows furrowed with frustration. The sun beamed across your face, providing a soothing warmth to your uneased expression. Though, something soon blocked it, causing your eyes to open in curiosity.

Korra looked down at you with a soft grin, leaning down with her hands on her knees.

“You’re getting better,” she attempted, shifting to lay on the ground next to you with a huff.

A light scoff left you as you listened to her, lips pursed in discontent. Clearly, you didn’t believe a word she said.

Korra kept her gaze on you, expression filled with concern. She knows very well the frustrations that come with learning something that just doesn’t click. She’s dealt with it first hand, and with the same element.

“You know, not believing in even the smallest accomplishment won’t help you improve on anything,” Korra whispered next, tearing her gaze away as to not put any pressure on you.

You gave a small noncommittal grumble. Though a soft sigh left you, “it’s hard to call anything I’m doing ‘small achievements’ when no progress has been made.”

Now this time Korra gave a scoff, hers more out of amusement.

“Yes you have. You may not have noticed since you’re focusing on the power behind the blasts, but your posture and balance have improved. You're incorporating the lightness and looseness in your form quite well, and you don’t fall on your butt often anymore,” Korra explained simply, a small fond smile overtaking her lips as she spoke about you and the progress she is personally seeing.

That rendered you quiet, speechless basically.

You turned your head away from the beaming sun to look at the young woman beside you who soon returned your gaze warmly.

“You noticed that?” You questioned softly.

Korra blinked at you. Briefly surprised. Possibly at her own sudden admiration before she tried to cover it with a cough to clear her throat. Her cheeks felt warm as she could feel the weight of your stare on her once she looked away once more.

“Well.. I... Ahem. I’m practically like your teacher right now, so, yeah. I have,” she explained with a lopsided smile, anxious you’d somehow find fault with her words even if they were mostly true. Mostly.

After a moment you let a light chuckle leave your lips, “thank you.”

“Don’t have to thank me for anything,” she said, giving you a light elbow bump. Her smile warmed further when her actions earned a brighter laugh from you.

Soon enough, Korra sat up with a grunt and groan. Standing on her feet she stretched before reaching a hand out for you to follow suit.

“Now, c’mon you big lug. We only have so much training time to spare,” she stated with a playful grin on her face.

An exaggerated whine left you, staying on the ground for a moment longer until you begrudgingly accepted Korra’s firm hand. You acted limp for a moment, but that did nothing to hinder Korra who helped you up with ease.

The soft laughter that bubbled out of you quietened as you regarded the Avatar with a look. A fond one.

Korra’s encouragement was enough to bring you back some motivation, no matter how much more embarrassment you’re gonna feel if you were to fall on your bottom again.

And yet… even with that thought, you’re just happy to have her by your side just like you have been with hers.
