a lot of the time, within fandom spaces, i find myself going "you guys dont deserve me sharing these thoughts". im not super "outwardly passionate" like some fans. i dont call characters pookie or baby girl / baby boy. my reactions are usually pretty mild unless im trying to be super overt - this is not my natural state though. even to the characters i love, im not that over the top. this seems to have led a lot of people (internet strangers) to believe i must hate something bc im not as in your face enthusiastic. personally, i find the constant love bombing to be uncomfortable and i just stay out of it. we can all enjoy things at our own leisure and level.
except apparently not, bc youre clearly an awful person if you arent as loud about things as others are.
the crux of this post? people believing i hate female characters (or even real life women). ive assumed (as it hasnt been clearly statedto me, just accused) that the animosity comes from the fact that i enjoy m/m and ive expressed interest in men online rather than screaming from the rooftops how much i love women.
i obviously dont need to comment. i know myself and those close to me know me and thats all that really matters. but i felt like talking about it. i like female characters just the same as male characters! i like interesting characters above anything else. just bc somebody is this or that, it doesnt mean theyre better or more interesting. their personality and story matter more to me than whats in their pants. personally, i find it pretty performative when ppl only focus on a character as "Girl" and reduce a female character to only her gender. its so counterproductive. can there be "boring girl" characters, since there are arguably plenty of "boring boy" characters? sure! if thats your cup of tea, do you. its not going to be everybodys thing though.

it should also be mentioned i dont really know as much media as ppl seem to think,,;;? i like and enjoy a lot of different characters but i do gravitate towards specific ones (regardless of sex). diona's my daughter i love her shes so cute and funny. koko's aesthetic and personality are really calming and to me, i relate to how tired she is a lot - but how she still puts others first and puts her best foot forward. marianne's story was so compelling to me i love how she teeters on the line of losing herself to her curse but she still finds happiness eventually. lysithea's personality is so fun shes the kind of character i personally enjoy writing myself + of course her backstory and motivations.
i really do have various "types": the (gender neutral) little guyTM, the bratty and or haughty type, the "am i a human or a monster/tool" type, the outwardly cool beauties with a loving heart, and so on. gender really doesnt matter. & im sure many other people feel the same - they gravitate towards tropes they like!
to put it very bluntly, when it comes to my own creations — i dont share my girls bc i dont want to. unless were close, i keep my girls to myself bc (imo) so many people dont actually like female characters & they act very weird about them. performatively saying "yas my queen omg i love her!" while disregarding her character is so common. do you like the character or are you just screaming about liking her bc shes a girl? if you are, then its whatever at the end of the day, if it brings you joy to do that then ok. but to turn around and use that "love" to then tear others down for not being as loud as you - thats where it starts to feel like an act that youre putting on for moral kudos.
as for female characters i would call my wife? heh... well, i do love a beautiful and mature woman. :J elegant, strong, confident in herself. reina's the only romanceable one due to the nature of her game and shes so cute when you confess; believing shes past her prime but having kamui tell her how much they cherish and rely on her. its really cute. you know who also doesnt have that many fans? MY WIFE REINA. YOU LIKE FEMALE CHARACTERS?? GO DO REINA'S SOCIAL LINKS. NOT JUST WITH KAMUI, DO HER ENTIRE LIST OF BONDS (its small, u can manage it. unless you hate women?!). <- for the tone deaf, thats a joke. im turning your vitriol back at you as a joke. i am however not joking about getting to know reina, you should do that.
there are so many other female characters i really like too. i dont like their fanbases, but i also dont really care for male character fanbases. at the end of the day this is a yap post and people who want to believe bad faith snap judgements wont change their opinions - its a waste of my time to try and force somebody to do so. but iiii wanted to highlight some of my fav girls from games i like. i also love so many of my friends female ocs! im just not a person that will ever go insane and yell "omg yes a girl yes woman yay female character my queen youre a goddess omg" etc etc. i dont do that for male characters either. putting characters (and especially real life ppl...) on a pedastal isnt my thing and i personally find it rather dehumanizing.
except. my wife reina fire emblem. shes gorgeous and strong but also tender and i will protect her from the masses who cant handle a woman with wrinkles. we are not the same. you will never be on my level. <- tone of guy who is only marginally joking.
