So A sat down next to B and brushed their hair back, holding their hand as B shivered through the night, their only comfort A’s presence by their side.

There was only one bed, but instead of making a big fuss, the tired pair went the fuck to sleep and got a full 8 hours.

There was only one bed. This is normal. They’ve been married for a decade and have a small child. The child has climbed in bed to snuggle with them because thunder is scary. They have their baby curled between them and they share soft, warm smiles over his sleepy head as he snores little kid snores.

I have lived several variations of ‘There was only one bed, and then John had to hide from the RA to avoid being caught in it with someone in the women’s dorm’, including under the bed, trying to disguise myself as lumpy sheets, and hiding in a closet.

That last post reminds me of a family legend that happened many years ago and was only told to me once I was old enough to get it. It went something like: "There was only one bed, and that bed was near the window in the women's dormitory. And the women's dormitory was on the first floor (ie, US second floor). And that night there was a surprise inspection.

Isn't "apprivoiser" "to tame" in English?

Oh my gods there's a word for it?! Thank you so much @French (and @hedgehog-moss for the explanation). This is a concept I love, in fiction and in real life - the winning of something or someone's trust on their terms, by showing respect and doing the work of being trustworthy, rather than assuming you have the right or authority to demand their compliance. And there definitely isn't a good word for it in English that I can think of. (I just tried searching "tame" on thesaurus.org to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything obvious, and I think the results definitely confirm OP's point...)
