i have helped run some fandom events in the distant past, but this will be my first solo mod event. i hope the tuesdays setup works, as I can only set aside one or two half days a week for this.

i love this rarepair. i have written fiction i still enjoy for them (as well as fiction that i consider deleting from time to time). mostly, i'm a huge fan of these two. i can endlessly link interested parties to meta, fics, art and doujinshi about their vibes. (send newbs to the Musical. That's uh... shinigamixhuman pretty much just in there.) so i'm thrilled to see a response for this event and for any participation.

1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.

2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.

3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."

4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.

How to suggest prompts: Send ideas to the @talonsinhismouthtues ask box through the end of June. If there are lots, finalists go to a poll; otherwise I'll randomize suggestions into the 10 final prompts.

How the event works: Any form, any length, any rating are good. I won't be accepting gen AI content but I can't guarantee I can see through it. I will also moderate for unrelated content to this topic. Then all submissions accepted will be posted on a queue on these Tuesdays. I'm still deciding best practice.

It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.

I don't know that I can do much by posting this here but I said I would, so... Apparently YouTube is cracking down on AI slop channels, but they've used this as an excuse to hit and demonetise a whole bunch of veteran, high-quality creepypasta and "true"-horror storytelling channels, including JNightmares whose video about this I've linked above and who I absolutely adore. J translates "true" horror and supernatural stories found on Japanese messageboards for an English-speaking audience, and reads them with his own voice - this guy is as far from the low-effort AI model as you can get, but he's been hit anyway and so have a bunch of his friends and collaborators. And this is, frankly, bullshit.
