Sounds like a simple question, but I really didn't know how to word it in a way that isn't endlessly long. Tamriel is a such a diverse world, of course it's citizens also express themselves in all kinds of ways. So, what's their gender? How do they express it? Their experiences, their feelings with it? Do they like to perform as a different gender and/or change their expressions of it?

What about their sexuality? I know Tamriel is pretty open about sexualities, but maybe they still had some unpleasant experiences or are uncomfortable with it.

In terms of gender Cephele is always first and foremost butch. It’s important to make the distinction between butch and masc with her because the protective part of being a butch is a very large part of her.

While she is masculine, it’s a kind that’s entirely detached from patriarchy, which is evidently very much existent across Skyrim as well as other parts of Tamriel. That lesbian masculinity of hers is inherently rooted in uplifting, protecting, providing for, and freeing women, whether they’re fellow lesbians or not. Large parts of developing that identity for her have been playing the Blood on the Ice quest and finding Arondil’s journals in Yngvild.

Despite being openly lesbian in a world without restriction on sexuality, Cephele has actually dated/been intimate with very few people due to inner feelings of isolation and her habit of prioritising her search for artefacts of lost knowledge. Despite generally keeping good community with lesbians and other women, this is something that caused her a lot of loneliness until she met her (now) partner Hermaeus Mora, someone that I personally headcanon as entirely detached from any notion of limited binary gender at all.
