My Sister, My Rival
Great and Greatest: How Venus Williams Helped Create Serena | My Sister, My Rival | Sister Act: Watching Venus and Serena Williams at Wimbledon |
Saw someone saying that it's "fandom policing", when talking about Lewis losing tumblrinas. Maybe someone is doing that, but idgaf if someone will no longer blog about Lewis. I'm interested in it from the sociological perspective. For example, Leclerc and Verstappen fans do not care about their racist likes/comments or for them not kneeling, in fact they will get angry or just ignore if you bring it up. Vettell, left forever ago, but his fans do not care that he still willingly associates himself with Ecclestone and Horner, even after the lawsuit against him. Lebron James said he heard only good things about Israel and would like to visit someday, and his fans joked that unc don't got no internet and moved on. To be clear i do not mean that they recieved no backlash for their actions from other people, i'm pointing out how their own fans reacted. To me this is the first time an athlete is getting this kind of reaction from his own fans. If i'm wrong, it would be interesting to see if it ever happened to any other athlete of Lewis' (or similar level of) fame.
no yeah it's a crazy phenomenon to me. personally, i was never really impressed with his 'celebrity activism' (such as it was) because it was painfully liberal, as all that kind of 'activism' and 'raising awareness' tends to be and i'm not a liberal, so that means nothing to me. but i guess people with liberal sensibilities would have found it meaningful. maybe this should teach them a lesson about liberalism. (seb is another example of this; and yeah no one really bats an eye that seb is constantly on the verge of making out with ecclestone, who is frankly one of the worst people on the planet, amazing how f1 fans continue to turn a blind eye to what exactly f1 is like. the idea that hanging out with the kardashians would mean anything when THAT was the kind of man who was running f1 lmaoooo).
overall i just don't understand why lewis' sporting achievements don't seem enough for people to be interested in him. that's crazy to me. and i guess it goes back to my constant complaints that people don't actually watch races, or constantly ignore the sports' element of f1, while at the same time not even acknowledging the reality tv aspects, because even there lewis is by far the most interesting personality -> so my question is, what do these people get out of f1 really? what did they like about lewis to begin with? the idea that the celebrity activism was anyone's favourite thing about lewis is honestly concerning, and people should ask themselves why that's a requirement for lewis but not for the other drivers who they also like.

Lewis Hamilton Interview with Charlie Rose - September 2015
Lewis: When I got to Formula 1, after watching Michael for those years, and then I got on track with him in a test day. And I was behind him at one point, and I was like (whispers) "Oh my god, that's Michael Schumacher." And I'm driving behind him, and I'm like "I don't want to overtake this guy." I was a little bit quicker than him at the moment, at that time. And I was like "I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy being behind him. It's Michael ahead! It's like I'm racing." So I would imagine it would be the same if I had Ayrton...I'd probably just be...happy to be behind.
Lewis Hamilton Interview with Charlie Rose - September 2015
Lewis: Whenever I'm behind the wheel, that's where I feel I belong. You know, I would never be the most confident person outside the car, I was never particularly an outspoken person, very very shy and timid. But when I get in the car, got my helmet on, it's...it was the one place that I knew that my dad was really proud of me.
