Michael: "Hero status makes me uncomfortable. I don't want it, I have a problem with it, just as I do with the hysteria surrounding my person. Obviously I appreciate what people think of my achievements and how it lifts them but I don't see myself as a hero. I am just like everyone else, I just happen to be able to drive fast."

I actually did an interview with Schumacher one-on-one in the back of a limo as he was being driven somewhere in Abu Dhabi, on the weekend of his final Grand Prix. Instead of coming up with a list of questions to ask him, I got hold of lots of people who were significant to his career, either people he'd worked with or people he'd competed against, to say, 'What would you like me to ask Michael?'. [...] DC's question was about that incident [at Spa 1998]: when he'd originally talked to Michael, he'd asked, "Michael, have you never ever been wrong in your life about something?". Michael had appeared to think about it and then had said, "No, I don't think so". So DC's question was: "What I want to know from him is, was he just winding me up when he said that or does he genuinely believe he's never been wrong?". And so I put that question to Michael and he had a little think about it, then he smirked and he said, "If I said 'No, I've never been wrong', that would wind him up even more, wouldn't it?'. I said it would, and he said, 'Ok, so that's what I'm saying: No, I've never been wrong'.
