1) any stretching is better than no stretching
2) any vegetable is better than no vegetable
3) statistically you will never be the worst person at anything, there is always someone in the world who is worse at stuff than you are
These remind me of this drawing by Franz Kafka from the 1900s. We've been feeling this way for a long time.

i've had this garfield panel saved forever and i even marked in my calendar today as "the monday that wouldn't die" so uh. happy(?) monday the 22nd aka the monday that wouldn't die
when you go to a doctors office their favorite thing to do is tell you "okay check out at the front desk" when you're done. and the front desk tells you ummm you can just go! and you're like don't I have a copay? and they're like we don't know, we have to ask your insurance company first. and you're like well my insurance card says the copay is $30, can I just pay it right now while I'm standing in front of you? there's a card reader right there on the desk. and they're like nooo we have to send a representative on horseback during the next waning moon to meet with their claims adjusting associate director of benefits management and client services in the secret glade to negotiate. and you're like oh okay and go home. and you get twelve emails asking you to take a survey about your experience
AND THEN in eight months you start getting phone calls from unknown numbers and when you finally check your voicemail they're like Your Balance Is Past Due We're Going To Kill You (even though by this point you have forgotten that you ever went to the doctor). and so you go to your MyChart account and log in with your username and password and you have to reset your password for security reasons. and you get two emails that say Your Password Has Been Reset. Was This You? and you have to go find your phone and enter your two factor authentication code and then you have to select which location you visited and then you have to click through all the Reminder: Complete Your Health History Profile where they ask if you've had any new surgeries even though you definitely told the nurse about this at your visit and then you have to find the Pay Bills tab and your balance is $179.23 and you're like why is it so expensive I thought the copay was $30? and you download a PDF of the charges and find out that they charged a late fee of $15 a month even though that doesn't add up to $179.23 and you don't even remember being told you had any balance at any point and you could call a representative and ask about it but that would probably take at least half an hour and there's no way it would actually get rid of the charges. so you go pay it anyway and you have to go find a paper check to look up your bank account routing number because they'll charge you an extra 3% if you pay with a credit card and there's a fee of $2.75 for convenience also. and then you get three emails that say We've Received Your Payment! Thank You For Your Payment!
I can't believe this entore site is not talking about Widow's Bay. Nautical folk horror, it's stephen king it's midnight mass it's also somehow an office comedy. Stephen Root is there. What more could you want?
stephen root is always there. and he’s always peak.
this show is awesome
If you love Welcome to Night Vale, Gravity Falls, Twin Peaks, and/or Courage The Cowardly Dog (the protagonist Tom is Courage in human form I stg), Widow's Bay is a TREAT!
Gentle corruption. Corruption in a kind of soft, romantic sense, you know? Where I get to hold them and cuddle them and press them to my chest and tell them how much I love them as I drag them deeper into my embrace. Rather than being something that makes them more horny, or mindless, or completely obedient, it just makes them feel safe and lovey around me. It makes them smile so brightly when I give them attention. Makes the sound of my voice so much more appealing, makes it so staring at me alone feels relaxing, makes their cheeks go deep red when I offer to hold their hand. So they can barely contain their eagerness when I offer to hold them, and play with their hair. Corruption that's warmth, and happiness, and comfort, and love that permeates even the furthest depths of their being. Corruption that feels good, but never wrong, just safe, safe to fall into the embrace of, safe to give into, because every part of you knows that it feels right, it feels perfect, it feels like and may very well be everything you've ever needed.
the notion of saving lives at all costs prevents suicidal people from speaking about their experiences in a candid way, knowing they will be decentered (e.g. “your family/friends will be devastated if you die”), subject to moral arguments (e.g. “suicide is a selfish act”), referred to someone else, often someone who has a hefty paywall behind their listening ear (e.g. “are you seeing a therapist about this?”), or incarcerated against their will. because of this, voices of suicidal people are left out from conversations about suicide, even paradoxically in campaigns encouraging suicidal people to reach out for support.
in order to break the stigma around suicidality, we have to break away from the prevention-no-matter-what script and honor suicidal people’s autonomy, allowing them to speak freely about their lived experience even in the face of personal discomfort for nonsuicidal people. in our current society, nonsuicidal people wield power/privilege over suicidal people. if your immediate reaction to hearing about a marginalized person’s pain is to shut them down in some way, you need to evaluate why you are centering your own comfort above another person who is confiding in you.

for real though think about your skills. I don't mean skills monetizable under capitalism. ok now imagine a society in which those skills were socially valued.
this is a fun exercise. many people assume it means "and imagine it OTHER skills were LESS valued" which I think says a lot about the society in which we currently live, wherein some people's skills are so devalued that they essentially are condemned to die for them (none of your skills can be adequately monetized? Too Bad!)
but imagine it like. we didn't do that
imagine if we measured value differently! what if we respected people with certain skills that can't be monetized under capitalism? wouldn't that be cool!
who up in a kafka-esque rut sleep deprived, casually malnourished, socially awkward, painfully self-conscious, struggling financially, lacking community, altogether anhedonic
