i just wanna blog abt supernatural and come on here and see posts abt supernatural and make gifs and meta and art abt supernatural and then go into my notes and see what ppl are saying abt supernatural. is that too much to ask
On one hand I understand not teaching cursive in school anymore, because it actually is slower than regular handwriting and almost everything is typed on a keyboard now anyways.
On the other hand, so much of our (even recent!) history was written in cursive, and having a whole generation of kids who canât read letters written by their grandparents, momentos saved by their great-grandparents, or even photo albums from theur immediate family seems like a dangerously quick way to detach us from previous generations.
And on the third, related but slightly malformed hand, I feel bad that yet another form of small, everyday art that brings joy in the middle of mundane tasks, which celebrates personality and individual style and self-expression, is about to fade into obscurity because it wasnât efficient enough for todayâs world to put up with.
Like⌠if we continue to whittle away the small arts out of every day life, whatâs going to be left except stark, ruthless pragmatism?
Maybe writing a grocery list is less mundane when you get to feel elegant for a moment. Maybe youâre a little more proud of what you write when you see it flow together like a painting
Okay, so Iâm noticing something interesting with regard to the OP versus a lot of the notes: OP mentions cursive being slower, and talks about it being elegant and artistic, whereas a lot of folks reblogging are baffled because, to them, cursive is faster, and in fact being faster is the point of cursive.
Could this be a difference in the way cursive has been taught? That some folks were taught cursive as a Formal, Fancy, Proper thing, while others were taught cursive as a more efficient mode of writing? And the folks who were taught Cursive Is Proper tend to write it slower because itâs Supposed to be Pretty?
i write slower in cursive because it was only required in school for a couple years and i have decades more practice in print writing. if i had kept up with cursive, it would be faster and prettier
When I was taught cursive the whole point was that it was faster and made your hand hurt less because you just kept going without stopping and starting. So I can blast through in cursive, though I dunno that anyone would EVER call it elegant

https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2022-05-04/most-transgender-children-stick-with-gender-identity-5-years-later-study
[Image description: Text that reads âBut to dig deeper, Olson and her team focused on more than 300 children who had undergone a social transition.
About two-thirds were transgender boys, meaning boys who had been assigned a female gender at birth; about one-third were transgender girls.
Solely on the social transition front, Olson noted that over five years only about 7% of the children transitioned back at least once.
By the end of the study period, 94% of the kids continued to identify as the gender they had embraced when first socially transitioning. (That figure includes the just over 1% who had at one point re-transitioned back to their birth gender, before then returning back again to the gender to which they had initially transitioned.)
Of the 6% who did not stick with their initial transition, a little more than 3% described themselves as non-binary by the end of the study period, while just under 3% said they identified with their birth gender. (Identifying with oneâs birth gender was notably more common among kids who had socially transitioned before the age of 6.) âInterestingly, we are (italics) not (end italics) finding that the youth who re-transitioned in our study are experiencing that as traumatic,â Olson noted. âWeâve been finding that when youth are in supportive environments â supportive in the sense of being OK with the exploration of gender â both the initial transition and a later re-transition are fine.â
Indeed, âsocially transitioning youth are [simply] making the same âdecisionsâ that cisgender children are making, in that they are seeking clothes, hairstyles, names, accessories, activities and playmates that reflect their gender identity and the resources in their community,â said Matt Goldenberg, a psychologist in adolescent medicine with the Seattle Childrenâs Gender Clinic.â End description]

Ship Sizes
Supercarrier: fandom flagship. Â Everybody and their dog ships it. Â The fandom is glutted with artwork and fic. Â You cannot escape this ship.
Dreadnought: massively popular. Â Nearly everybody ships it. Â You can, with dedication, in theory, reach the end of the AO3 archive for the shipâs tag, but itâll take a long time.
Cruiser: pretty popular ship. Â Not everyone ships it, but everyone knows about it. Â Has a good amount of fic/art, and probably multiple ask blogs.
Frigate: just plain popular. Â Feels like it could use more fanworks. Â New people to the fandom might not know about it, but theyâll stumble across it sooner rather than later.
Gunboat: bit of a rarepair. Â It might have an ask blog or two. Â A couple big name fans ship it. Â Probably only takes a few weeks to get through the entire AO3 backlog, and one new fic gets added during that time.
Tugboat: rarepair. Â Almost never seen except as a side pairing to a more popular ship. Â You can usually get through everything on AO3 in a matter of days. Â Youâve forgotten what it is to be picky about what you read.
Rowboat: less than a dozen people ship it. Â You all know each other. Â You exist in an endless cycle of the same five people desperately producing art and fic and one person who constantly contributes headcanons.
Canoe: you are one of maybe three people who ship it, and thereâs a not-insignificant chance youâve never encountered those other two hypothetical shippers.  You spend your days paddling furiously in hopes of keeping the ship afloat, dreaming of the day you upgrade to a rowboat so you can finally rest.
Submarine: Quite a few people ship it, but nobody wants to admit to shipping it. Will randomly appear and throw the other ships into confusion.
Pontoon: that random crossover ship with that one black dress character/trope/fandom everyone will ship with everything else. Has the potential to turn into a massive party until someone gets sick and everyone goes home.
Pedalo: That iconic bizarre crackship whose proponents claim theyâre only into it ironically, but secretly theyâre all dead serious.
Paging @amythe3lder for the pool noodle definition.
Barge: Not quite seaworthy, but buoyant in both the literal and figurative senses. Someone is always merrily drunktweeting about it at 11pm on Saturday night and then wistfully sobertweeting about it 4 hours later from their kitchen floor. The kind of ship that generates more playlists than fic. Artfully covered in trash and dirty laundry.
Raft: Thereâs two-to-four people who Ship It Hard and a few others who grab onto the side for safety when thereâs drama on their usual flagship.
Barrel:Â Thereâs orphaned fic of it. Thereâs unsigned art of it. Thereâs headcanon asks on anon. Someone must ship it, but no one knows why or who they are. Your friend got a glimpse once before they ducked back down.
Pool Noodle: Itâs just you, kicking your feet. You named the ship and wrote it on your noodle with a big sharpie. You tell people about it and are met with confused blinking. Most of the fics in the tag were either written by you or for you. You are caught between wanting to shout about how lovely life is on this floating scrap of whimsy and fearing that your noodle canât bear much weight. Or worse, that someone will come over and dunk you, take your noodle and fwhap you on the head with it.Â
This is a brilliant guide đ
Ever Given: the fandom Supercarrier is, unfortunately, your NOTP, and it is impossible to find art/fic/meta of your preferred ship without being impeded by the Ever Givenâs presence.
what the fuck is my state doing
The new laws will affect abortion access, social studies curriculum and cities that trim the budgets of law enforcement.
what
Holy shit.
By giving them what's essentially an unpayable ticket, this is just letting them jail the homeless.
these are ALL things that many people in texas have been actively fighting against for almost a full year. there's been a campout in front of atx city hall since late spring in protest of the homeless camp criminalization. the "punishing cities who cut police budgets" is specifically directed at austin which voted to cut police funding by 1/3rd following last year's protests against police brutality. teachers have been outspoken against the education bills, reproductive rights advocates have been talking about the bill against abortion for months now.
for almost a year there have been political protests, movements (eg, stop the sweeps), social media coverage including people warning each other of when police are in certain areas, mutual aid and political organizations (such as little petal alliance), etc etc of ALL these things. there are currently protesters that are in jail or were bailed out of jail by their communities.
don't frame this as "the state just sprung all these on us, wow nobody cared or talked about it" because they didn't spring it up on people, and people were talking and acting. it wasn't hidden either--there is news articles of these things, social media coverage, all of it.
Kathryn Newton as Allie Pressman in The Society (2019- )
Okay, so I'm /actually/ about to write a porn fic to AO3, and I'm interested in knowing what the difference is between the M rating and E rating. Able to enlighten me?
Mature is âand then they made love.â Explicit is âand hereâs how they did it exactly.â
To wit: mature.
He looked at the envelope, spread out before him.
God, heâd never been this hungry.
Could he be gentle enough? Slow enough? He didnât want to damage it, didnât want to do anything heâd regret⌠but no, no, it seemed the envelope wanted this as much as he did. It slipped into his hands, it folded as he asked. When it was time for more, the card was waiting, and he somehow knew exactly what to do. He moved with his correspondence in a dance as old as the mail system, and when it was over, he was smiling and the envelope was completely, thoroughly sealed.
Explicit:
The envelope waved its flap in the air slowly, gently, and he could see the faint shimmer of the adhesive traced along its fold. It was like a taunt, a dare: wonât you? And he would, oh, God, he would, lifting the envelope firmly to his lips, licking slowly at first, then faster, more firmly, tasting the envelopeâs essence, the faint bitterness, the sweetness to followâ
Oh, he couldnât help but smile at how it felt in his hands. It was so perfectly folded. Its paper was rough against his fingers, and its crossed folds shifted slightly as it opened for his eager tongue. Yes, yesâŚ
Now the card, and his hand trembled as he lifted it, as he held the envelope, stretching it wide. Would it fit? Oh⌠oh, yes, it would fit, it slid in smooth and quick and filled the envelope to bursting, oh, made for each other, and he smiled in delight at how perfect it was.
He was ready. Now, now, now: with one swift movement he folded the flap over and he pressed, yes, he pressed the flap down and it stuck, God, it stuck perfectly, and he closed his eyes in bliss.
Afterwards, he stroked the envelope, and thought about addresses.
