everytime u go outside ur spending $60 automatically its crazy $60 is the new $20
Stop buying food and coffee and make it at home. I'm begging everyone.
ok well i filled up my car with gas and got cat food for my cats so idk how this applies to me also the “don’t buy coffee anymore” thing is rlly annoying from ppl acting like buying coffee is the reason ppl r struggling to keep purchases under 20 dollars instead of capitalism inflating prices for shareholders to buy another five houses like. eventually yall gotta stop doing the “no more avacado toast!” thing to ppl bc there is no budgeting that is enough to outrun inflation
If your rent makes more than 30% of your income, it’s unlikely that you will ever be able to make any savings. If it’s more than 50%, you are in some deep trouble. But yeah, that one time you bought the sandwich is the problem. Also “stop buying food” – like altogether? Make it at home from what? Thin air?
"Make your food at home" sounds beautifully quaint, doesn't it?
Anyone who actually does make their food at home lately will know that, unless you want to live on dry pasta, buying the necessary ingredients for that is already a fucking nightmare. I'm currently being very deliberate about my diet, which means that I exclusively prepare all my meals at home from fresh ingredients. Now, I'm lucky to have a decent income and no family, mortgage or car draining it, but the weekly shopping trip still hurts. And I do not buy a lot of fancy stuff. Mainly vegetables and dairy products.
If you mean "make your food at home" as in "grow it yourself", you're even more delusional than I thought. Sure, I'll grow all my food on my half a square foot balcony, because that's going to work. Besides, growing vegetables and fruit doesn't cost a thing, right?
The whole narrative of "young people these days just need to buy less iced lattes to afford their own home" completely ignores how just about everything has changed since boomers were able to buy their first house at 25. We've been told to get a university degree. We did that. All that got a lot of us was an ass full of student loans and some dead-end, low-paying job that may or may not be killed by AI soon. And in addition, we pay so much in rent that we have no way of saving for a house. And who's gonna give a mortgage to someone who's owing thousands in student loans and is living from one short-term contract to the next?
My own situation is better now, but it took me till I was 40 to get to a point where I no longer have to watch every penny, and where I don't stand in the veggie aisle at the supermarket, wondering if I can afford a zucchini or not. But I still cannot afford to buy a house, and I probably never will.
So shut the fuck up with your stupid boomer lines. The fucking world is ending because the generations before us lived like there was no tomorrow. If we want to eat a damn avocado toast or get a fancy latte to go, we will. There's not a lot else you left for us to look forward to.
