Real and growing possibility of him dying live on tv and nobody in the room noticing for minutes on end.

honestly "oracle that nobody believes" is such a solid trope. imagine trying to convince anybody in 2006 what the next two decades was gonna look like

white europeans love to pretend like the united states and europe arenāt two cheeks of the same ass
Listen, nobody who's ever opened a history book says we didn't do that shit first. Pick an atrocity and chances are there was a time europeans did it on mass to someone for the sake of profit. The difference, is that we have for the most part put that behind us, while the US is just sinking deeper and deeper into it. We're not perfect, and we were a lot worse in the past. But it has been a while since we were the problem
so the racism, antiblackness, islamophobia, and hatred for immigrants just disappeared huh
"its been a while since we were the problem" someone Black was murdered by police violence in Ireland last month
You think we are better? Look at the fucking countries that refused to accept Syrian orphans because they were too Muslim or too brown. Look at the way people talk of the Ukrainian refugees. Look at the uproar over a black man in a supermarket leaflet because āwe donāt have those people here and youāre forcing them at us.ā Look at the fucking rampant transphobia in Britain, raging homophobia in Hungary and Poland, rising numbers of Nazi-adjacent populist parties in Germany or Italy, the hatred for women in power, the anonymous letters wishing rape on female journalists or politicians⦠how dare you to suggest that Europe has learned, how dare you to suggested that we are any better.
The only thing better about us is that we didnāt have Reagan destroy our society and economy, so we still have well-fare programs, food regulations and affordable healthcare, and therefore youāre less likely to end up homeless after paying an extortionate amount of medical bills for that time they had to treat you for salmonella.
Free my woman she did all of it but I donāt care
One upside to being a writer is you can write your own comfort fic. The downside is you still have to actually write it.
the horrors persist but my friends write beautiful fanfic

[4x09] Roslin and love.
She took the advice :)
Damnit, okay, so, this spawned a discussion and I havenāt been able to stop thinking about it. Iāve also written a nearly-complete (!) fanfic about it. Laura and love is something Iāve spent a lot of time considering.
The thing is, Laura has only ever known a particular type of love. In my headcanon, she was the Eldest Daughter who moved back in to care for her dying mother, while her father was distracted with grief. She became a surrogate mother to her sisters after they lost their mother, and she was a teacher to countless students, and then a political advocate for countless teachers. She was Everybodyās Mom long before she became the President of a lost race in desperate need of her firm but compassionate leadership. For Laura, love is duty. For Laura, love is hard work.
She even says as much to Bill when she confesses, on her deathbed, that she never had a home before. Laura spent her life facilitating everyone elseās ability to feel at home, to feel relaxed and safe, to such an extent that she was never able to feel that way herself. Every relationship in her life was one-sided: Laura gives, provides, helps, comforts, cares.
If weāre lucky, we are afforded the blessing of letting some lessons take a lifetime to learn. But Laura died in her prime, and in our prime weāre always too busy doing everything to stop and see the lessons that are crystallizing all around us. If weāre granted the opportunity to get old, to slow down, to stop acting and start being, then everything we did, and saw, and were, slowly begins to settle, and those sediments form the foundation of wisdom.
When Elosha told Laura ājust love someone,ā I think she knew that Laura would love Bill the same way she loved all those others - dutifully. Actively. Intentionally. And yes, Laura was vulnerable with Bill when she told him she loved him - and yes, she was vulnerable when she moved in with him, and let herself be at home. But these lessons arenāt learned in a single, lightning-bolt epiphany. Lauraās redemption arc in the series is beautiful, and I buy it, but in real life, unlearning the lesson that Love Equals Duty takes longer than a single vision on a single Cylon Baseship. I think Elosha probably knew that.
I think love has three faces. Thereās Love the noun - thatās the love you feel. Thereās Love the action - thatās the love you give. And then thereās a Love that you surrender to - the love you receive. Mothers, and all those who love by providing care, donāt always have the luxury of receiving.
As a thought experiment, imagine that Lauraās and Billās roles were reversed, and Bill was on the Baseship with the Hybrid when it jumped away. Do you think Laura would have abandoned the fleet and waited in a raptor for Bill to return? I donāt. I think when Laura canāt live without someone, and yet sheās called to live without them, she finds a way. Sheās done it before. She simply puts her heart on the line and lets herself break on behalf of everyone else, in service of her singular purpose, which is to care for her family, her children, her fleet.
Bill waiting for Laura was an act of faith, and faith is something Laura has never had. Lauraās world is concrete, and there is always an option to act and effect change. She believes in the gods because of direct personal experience with her visions, but thatās not faith. The ultimate tragedy of Lauraās story is that she got partway there - she understood that she needed to open herself, to find a home, and she found one. But she never got to live in it. She gave her love to Bill, but she never really got a chance to learn what it means to let him love her in return. She lived with him briefly in his quarters, in her headscarf, in her bathrobe, but she didnāt get to stay. Her work was never done, her mothering never finished, and thatās why my headcanon wonāt grant that she truly understood Eloshaās assignment. Only opening herself consistently, over time, will erode the armor sheās wearing and effect a real metamorphosis.
Iām sorry for ranting at such great length, but this is why I wrote Looking Through Glass
Do you ever just crack up at season 4 Bill, like I understand the Tighlon thing was stressful but the way heās wrapped himself up in a robe and Lauraās gotta be like āhey. hey tiger. whoās my little admiral blanket burrito? is admiral blanket burrito ready to go to earth?ā

hey, donāt cry. one half flour one half yogurt knead into dough and fry for easy flatbread and dip in balsamic vinegar, okay?
After three batches, my findings so far:
I use full fat Greek yoghurt and self-rising flour
Ratio by weight
Add a pinch of salt
Knead until no longer sticky, adding more flour if necessary
Roll them with olive oil instead of flour and fry in an otherwise unoiled, preheated pan (medium heat) (trust in the lord; it will seem like it's going to stick to the pan at first but they'll unstick in about 15 seconds)
Roll them thin but not too thin; mine take about 45 seconds on either side
Serving with garlic butter is also a very good option
Iām gonna be eating these for a month
This actually works?? Two-ingredient bread??
I gotta try it.
That's...naan.
That's naan?
*runs to Google*
HOLY SHIT THAT IS NAAN! HOW DID I NOT KNOW NAAN WAS THAT EASY TO MAKE?
this is one of those rare easy bread recipes that also works with gluten free flour! the yoghurt helps with structural integrity. you may want a pinch of xanthan gum if your flour doesn't come with it mixed in. i like to mix some rosemary into the flour to have a herby naan, since i can't have garlic.
ADD CUMIN. Holy shit. Add cumin to the flour its so good!
The rosemary one is also fab

some of my favorites
Kind of a tangent and not baseball related, but I would like to share a quote:
āIf you have the right mix ā I call it the goldilock sign ā if you have the right mix of autism and steroids, you are 100% guaranteed to become a world champion. And thatās the thing, people are focusing on steroids but really as a world class coach, you really wanna attract people with autism because you can give anyone steroids. Despite our best efforts, we are yet to give anyone autism.ā - Craig Jones, Australian grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt competitor, and coach.
