i like these two

my favorite novel of his is firestarter. i've probably reread that six times. what i love about it is that it captures the frantic, anti-authoritarian, paranoid sense of the 1970s in such an engaging way. compare this against something like holly, which is more or less an ode to covid compliance. coming by it as someone who was a covid Goodboy for the most part, even i found this one difficult to get through. you can’t let your political brain infect your writing brain too much, especially if you’re in your twilight years and can’t conjure up anything more politically sophisticated than “good things are good. bad things are… bad things. can i have some ice cream?”
