or Jun/Ju/however else people decide to shorten my nick. It was my old Dungeons & Dragons name.
I generally use she/her or they/them pronouns, but I'm fine with anything, really.
I write mainly science fiction and fantasy, but dip into other genres. Dystopia's a favorite of mine, because it allows me to critique our world without feeling too direct.
I'm also an engineer (planes!) and a photographer.
I'd like to see some new blogs on my dashboard, so if you're a writeblr, bookblr, or photographer, interact and I'll take a look!
DMs are open & I'm always happy to join ask and tag games!
I love
Good Omens (Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett), The Martian (Andy Weir), The Screaming Staircase (Jonathan Stroud), Math with Bad Drawings (Ben Orlin), and What If (Randall Munroe)
Electronic music (Alan Walker, TheFatRat, Avicii)
Sherlock & Doctor Who

A City Without Birds
science fiction | dystopia | cyberpunk
A novel I've been working on for over three years, originally called Seranid. It's finally complete!
Memories can’t be trusted in Seranid. Feisty Terry Silver learns the hard way when she’s forced to flee the utopian City of her childhood, charged with a crime she has no recollection of committing.
Intro Post | Amazon | Goodreads
The Great Mall Mirage
satire | second person POV | sci-fi horror
A mix of Squid Game and The Mysterious Benedict Society.
Your friend Jack Hart and you know three things:
There's a new mall in town, opened by the country's richest man, Miles Dane.
He's disappeared.
And the mall is a sadistic game. To win, you have to make it to the top floor. Alive.

It's very endearing to me how many people are willing to keep an eye on a video feed so they can push a button and let a fish in the Netherlands get to the other side of a dam.
It is genuinely baffling to me, in a very kind and positive way, especially coupled with the local news continually going several shades of 'wtf, this thing is a roaring success again and we don't quite get why'. They've already quadrupled their capacity for simultaneous clicks and it's still nowhere near enough and there's just... Bewilderment.
I think people want to help the environment in small but tangible ways, which is hard right now because of.. well... because of The Horrors. And being able to say 'wow! I helped this creature cross a dam' makes you feel good.
I also think that most people can relate to a small, helpless creature trying to get from one place to another and there's a FUCKIN WALL in the way.
But to come back to point 1- Citizen Science fills a hole in the soul that wanted to go out on adventures and discover things when we were younger, but the study of it was hard or we didn't have the money or our schools were garbage. But you don't have to have a degree to do things like... press a button or download and use an app, or count or transcribe notes.
Anyways- here's some Citizen Science links if the Fish Doorbell makes you feel happy and you yearn for more ways to help scientists do stuff:
Foldit (folding proteins)
Fathomverse (sea animals)
Project Monarch (butterflies)
Bioblitz, an event where citizens identify as many species in an area within a period of time
Species Watch (animal species)
BOINC’s Compute for Science
Zooniverse is a website that hosts information on many citizen science projects
Label trees in aerial photos
Count cells in fossils and modern leaves
Digitize Atmospheric Data
Count penguins
US-based Citizen Science Database
eBird (bird identification)
Merlin (bird identification by sound)
iNaturalist (nature identification)
MapSwipe (collaboration between several Red Cross organizations and Doctors Without Borders, update vital geospatial data)
I made a little comic of Levi, Sunny, Echo, and @soraiku's OC, Felix -- Sunny and Echo will show up in vol 3, and Felix is from an RPG we're playing set in the Sunset Apocalypse 'verse. They remarked when they saw Levi in my recent sketch dump that they could see Felix staring at Levi's hair and Echo misunderstanding it as a crush, when all Felix wants is that same haircut. Anyway, the idea tickled me so much (especially since Sunny is right, everyone always falls for Levi XD) that I needed to turn it into a little comic.

Please make art. You don't have to bare your soul or make a masterpiece, you can be silly and you can be derivative if you want. You don't even have to show it to anyone. Just please make something, it's so good for you
i loveeeeeee nonlinear storytelling. show me where we are. now show me how we got here. the end before the beginning. show me how it was inevitable or how many chances we had to change things(nothing was ever going to change). let's meet in the middle as all the puzzle pieces slide into place hell yeah that's the good shit.
That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.
This guy inspired me to repair my own macbook. First of all, you should know that I am not… like, I have to look up HOW to look up what my computer specifications are. Tech, that ware either soft or hard, is not a subject in which I experience comfort or competence.
But my puppy peed on my keyboard, and I asked the apple store, or the fucking mac cafe, or the godsdamn Computer House Chill Zone or whatever cute ass name they have for their bullshit store, and they said it would be TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE MY KEYBOARD. I’m not even exaggerating.
So I asked the internet, well how hard IS it to repair? And I saw this guy’s video, and while I am no techie, I AM fueled by spite, so I was all “oh, they do that shit on purpose specifically so they can charge me $1200 bucks or make me buy a new computer hunh? FUCK THEM” and I bought all the tools I needed for about $25 and I bought all the parts I needed for about another $25 and I watched a few tutorial videos, and I replaced my own keyboard.
So, once you are doing the actual deed, it becomes pretty obvious that they are finding creative ways to make this much harder than it has to be on purpose. On thing that stood out to me is, instead of all the tiny screws being the same size, there are about two dozen very slightly different sizes. They could easily be all the same size, or like, two sizes at most, but no.
These mother fuckers will take a panel that screws into place and they’ll use a different size screw for each corner. They are so close that you almost cannot tell them apart visually, but they each will only screw into the matching corner. Like, it’s a pretty clear “fuck you” to anyone trying to do repairs.
anyway, this guy is also fueled by spite, and doing holy work, and I have mad respect
I had a similar situation to someone up thread, where a dog peed on their keyboard. This was years ago, when it was a little easier to fix, but I got a replacement keyboard for $50 and took care of it with a screwdriver and a Gin and Tonic.
It should be that easy to fix your stuff. Buying new only benefits Apple, or Samsung or Google or whoever made your stuff. If it works for you, it should work and you should be able to fix it.
Copyright class actions could financially ruin AI industry, trade groups say.
AI industry groups are urging an appeals court to block what they say is the largest copyright class action ever certified. They’ve warned that a single lawsuit raised by three authors over Anthropic’s AI training now threatens to “financially ruin” the entire AI industry if up to 7 million claimants end up joining the litigation and forcing a settlement.

Thanks for the tag, @vsnotresponding. I mentioned I had an idea for an Oz ghost story, so a peek at the ending.
And then they moved aside, revealing a third figure.
They appeared to be a teenager, dressed in equally worn purple clothes, except for what appeared to be one of the guards’ coats. It looked oversized on their scrawny frame, nearly slipping off their shoulders. A brown newspaper boy’s cap allowed dark curls to leak out.
Then they stepped closer and looked up.
Emerald green, matching the emerald streaks that framed their face, matching the emeralds of the city they stood in, looked up.
Scarecrow froze.
I'll tag, with no pressure, @oh-no-another-idea, @on-noon, @tabswrites, @writernopal, @moondust-bard, @awordchemist, and @charlesjosephwrites.

"nothing is real atoms never touch each other youve never touched anything in your life" ok. well when i pet my dog he is soft and when he licks my hand it is wet and that is far more real to me than whatevers going on at an atomic level
nuclei don't touch, but the nucleus is not the core of reality. reality is made of electrons dancing. reality is made of bonds.
you pet your dog and the atoms that are you brush up against the atoms that are him, and the electrons that are you press into the electrons that are him, and both of them change their movement.
electrons of course are not really particles and do not really move.
you pet your dog and the electron-orbitals of your skin overlap with the electron-orbitals of his fur, and both are changed by the contact. you are not made of little motes floating alone in a void. you are a single unfathomable chord formed of a trillion vibrations, and so is he. and the note you play is changing at every moment by what you touch and how you breathe, and so is his. and atoms do not really have edges, and to touch is to interact, and when you put your hand on your dog the universe does not know that you are separate. the song expands to hold you both.
