I do love the phrase executive dysfunction bc the image it conjures is of a bunch of people wearing business suits around a long oval conference table arguing with each other to the point where they’re getting into physical fights, but in the background there’s just a big empty whiteboard with a To Do list with one item on it and that item is “take shower”

this also counts for all those times you kept your mouth shut and didn't complain because you were being polite, and people would gladly have changed things if you had just asked. your suffering was not noble. you do not get a cookie for it, you do not get a tally mark next to your soul's score for grinning and bearing it. your suffering serves no purpose. break free of it. you deserve comfort.

One time I was leaving a friend's place and an older lady with basically no English came up to me and communicated that she was very cold and needed a ride. She pointed to tell me where to go.

I got there and her daughter or granddaughter came out and was like omg her phone died we were worried

And then the older lady said something and the younger lady translated.

"She knew she could trust you because you have pink hair"

I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of"

Be weird. Be colorful. Help random people.

A WIP can sit dormant for a year and a half and still be happy to see you.

If you find yourself ashamed of the work that Past You did, that's understandable- you might be a different person now. But the WIP doesn't hold it against you. Maybe you have a better ending now. Maybe its worse. They're just glad to see you're still here.

I wrote myself into a corner about a year ago and then didn't have any time to write due to job things. And for awhile I sort of gave up because I started to feel resentful that I couldn't finish it.

And then about a week ago I dusted off the laptop and got back to it.

And the little people that live in the word document were happy to see me, and we picked up about where we started. And we worked out an ending that made sense and felt good, even if that part isn't written yet.

They weren't mad. And I didn't lose sight of their characterization because they are my friends and I know them. All is well. They knew I needed a break.

“Tock the Gnome: The Rescue Quest” is about a Gnome woman who lives in a gaslamp culture in a high fantasy world. Driven by a Fairy Tale about a trapped Elven princess on a floating island, she convinces her friend Bumble – an airship pilot – to join her quest to rescue her. They hire extra firepower from unfamiliar lands, and together they seek the island and the princess. But what they seek may not be quite what they expected…

Proudly focuses on queer characters, romance and relationships, size-positivity, Faerie, spiritual magic, conundrums and tomfoolery.

Edit of the variety that I always have to add to posts like these, apparently: This is a post about real aromantics and real asexuals, not fictional characters. "Aromantics can still date" and "asexuals can still have sex" are things that real aromantics and asexuals get told all the time, regardless of whether we've expressed a desire not to have these things. If your first thought seeing this post was "ah, this must be about shipping a-spec characters," then please reread it again with the knowledge that it's actually about a topic that directly impacts real a-specs in real life. The way fandoms treat a-spec characters does matter, but not more than society's treatment of real a-spec people, and certainly not to the extent that so many people should assume that every post about a-spec issues is actually about shipping!

oh someone told me something useful yesterday. she said she’s been thinking about her tbr less as an overwhelming list of books she Must Read and more like she’s cultivating a wine cellar. making a rich collection that will provide the perfect thing when needed. a bottle will get uncorked when the time is right

This is my approach to buying books! (It would, of course, be more financially savvy to rely on library books for the wine cellar approach, but I like buying books when I travel, so they bring me joy just to have on my shelf while unread.) You add books to the TBR list for the little spark prompted by the investigation and imagining of reading them later. Then when you're not sure what to read, you already have a curated collection on the literal or metaphorical shelf that you know you'll enjoy, like a gift from past you to present you. I have many dozens of unread books hanging around and it might be years till I get to them, but they've already brought me some happiness and they will all over again when the stars align to read them in full (and they will! It happens all the time, it just takes time).

honestly i think the selling point of romance for me (and where it usually fails to land) is 'can i imagine these people sharing an in-joke'

like, are they in cahoots. can they laugh together. do they have a similar enough or at least complementary enough outlook that they can connect over something being funny (even if it's funny in a fucked up way! sometimes those are the best in-jokes!)

that's not necessarily true love in and of itself, but it does feel like an essential component to me

Ah, apparently (so far) roughly 80% of aro/ace's are predators… to garlic bread, with a further 60% being oriented to cake. The remaining 20% have celiac (or another allergy/illness) but would like to be included so they shall hunt in spirit.
