My Favorite Alternate Good Omens 3 Fics
I'll just come right out and say it: I was disappointed, and even a little depressed, by Good Omens 3. (And if you liked it, good for you - this post is not an attack on anyone.) After Season 2, I had read many, MANY fan-written versions of Season 3 and I now think that many of the fan fics were better than the canon version. Of course, I've read plenty of bad GO3 fan fics as well, and I've been coping by thinking of the canon version as just another entry on the "that didn't work" pile.
I've also been coping by re-reading my favorites, so I thought I'd share some (in no particular order). If you're also depressed, I hope they cheer you up. Feel free to add your own recommendations in the comments!

After Aziraphale's defection, Crowley tries to figure out how to live life for himself.

if i fall, on that day, i only pray, don't fall away from me
What if there was much more to Aziraphale and Crowley's history than Crowley remembers?
What if there had been an "our side" even before the Fall?
What if Aziraphale's guilt was the only thing keeping them apart for the last six thousand years?
And what if the only thing that could pull them back together again was the firm belief of a plucky little angel-turned-human-bookseller that love really does conquer all?
Don't Fall Away From Me is a post Season-2 Good Omens fic that rotates perspectives between Muriel, Crowley and Aziraphale.

“I read the books about you,” Muriel said matter-of-factly.
Crowley wasn’t following. “The books about me?”
“The letter books to Aziraphale’s friend Diary? You must know them. They must be an angel, but I don’t think I’ve ever met them before.”
Crowley coughed heavily. “You’ve read Aziraphale’s diary?”

Crowley goes to therapy, because he needs it. This is a story of hurt and healing, and eventually finding out what it means to be happy.
Jesus, Etc. by fellshish (G)
Well this is awkward. Crowley suddenly runs into Aziraphale. Turns out, the angel has been tasked with taking Jesus to Earth for the Second Coming but Aziraphale keeps finding new reasons to postpone it. Like having Eras tour tickets. Do you know how hard those are to come by?

The end of the world is upon us...again.
But Aziraphale and Crowley aren't speaking.
As the pair try separately to thwart the oncoming storm, they're faced with new challenges and old friends.
For Crowley, that means finding the apocalyptic High Entity of Hell known only as The Beast and coercing her out of retirement.
For Aziraphale, that means making friends with JCC26 (Jesus Christ Clone 2026).
In the end, it will take a mysterious heavenly package, a prison break, and some massive miracles to reunite the Ineffable Idiots and save all of humanity.

"Really," Crowley says, and laughs, sharp and mean. "They gave you the job and not the authority to run it? Well, isn’t that a surprise. If only someone had told you."
"That's not how these things work! It's just—slow going, is all. Change takes time, Crowley."
"Sure, yeah. Climb your way up, but not too much, ey?"
"It's not about me," Aziraphale says, snappy, in that holier-than-thou voice. Crowley smiles mirthlessly, bares his teeth.
"No, you're just a tool for the greater Good, are you. How's that working out, d'you think?"
"Swimmingly, actually. The Metatron really appreciates my suggestions." He smiles—soft, wondrous, almost disbelieving. Crowley wants to scratch it out of his face. Wants to shake him until he comes to his senses and drops to his knees and begs him—
"I always knew you were naive, but not this much," he hisses. "They're going to chew you up and put you through the grinder until you can't take it anymore and then, when you finally, finally snap, they'll cast you down like they did the rest of us."
Aziraphale's eyes flick down once—to his mouth, Crowley realizes, and abruptly steps back, face prickling with shame. Shame, him. Imagine that.

It was a truth universally acknowledged that an angel in possession of no memory must be in want of a wife.
No, that was the wrong book. The wrong line. Aziraphale frowned.
“What,” the gentleman before him asked, “and I mean what, are you doing here?”

Or, two years after things fall apart, Aziraphale shows up at Crowley's doorstep without his memories. The easy part is getting it back, the hard part is getting them back together.

Part 1: dance the edge of sanity (T)
And yet, on this particular Tuesday as he sat hunched over in a booth in the corner of the grottiest pub he could find, leaning heavily on the bottle of Talisker clutched in his hand and pretending—poorly—to read the newspaper, Crowley found himself recalling those damp and endless years of the fourteenth century with a sort of gentle nostalgia.
Ah, the fourteenth century, he thought to himself. Those were the days.
He’d barely even known Aziraphale then.
OR, Crowley pines, Aziraphale repents, the Second Coming comes and it all sorts itself out in the end.
Part 2: On the Side of the World (M)
The demon Crowley has gone rogue.
Precisely what “rogue” looks like on a demon who was never anyone’s idea of “manageable” is something neither Heaven nor Hell is currently equipped to deal with. Hell is rebuilding and Heaven, under the auspices of the Supreme Archangel Aziraphale, is focused on spreading the Word of their prophet, known as the Second Coming--of what, exactly, remains unspecified. Neither side seems to remember who Crowley used to be, nor have they bothered to change the passwords.
The Metatron has no interest in demons, rogue or otherwise. His Plan is going swimmingly and he couldn't be more pleased. Now if only he could figure out who’s responsible for all these unauthorised miracles that just keep happening, far and wide, on planet Earth.
And I Did by Di_42 (E)
This is a story about faith. This is a story about love. This is a story about loss. This is a story about being apart and about being reunited. This is a story about fighting. This is a story about choices.
Where do we choose to place our faith? Will a god we have faith in come and save us? Will a friend? A loved one? When do we start doubting our faith? How long before we snap, before we raise our head? How far can we go before we crumble under the weight of our own misplaced faith? Under the weight of our choices? What does it take to make us feel betrayed, abandoned, left behind? What does it take for us to turn our back on what in which we had faith?
Who are we loyal to, and who is loyal to us? Who do we trust, and who trusts us? What are we ready to risk in the name of faith? What are we ready to lose in the name of loyalty? When are we going to take our lives into our own hands? What are we going to fight for?
This is a story about unbreakable faith. This is, after all, a work of fiction.
OR:
Yet another Good Omens post season 2 fiction, featuring Supreme Archangel Aziraphale and Grand Duke Of Hell Crowley.
And All the Stars Shall Fall from Heaven by ThisColorfulAbyss (T)
They say the Supreme Archangel Aziraphale has changed beyond recognition. He's stern, authoritarian, and leads New Heaven with an iron fist. They say he keeps hellfire in a diamond jar on his desk, and threatens the angels who wouldn't obey him to unleash its destructive power.
Crowley doesn't want to care. He has spent 6000 years worrying for Aziraphale, and where has it got them? But when Shax tells him that New Heaven is looking for the Seal of Baraqiel to complete the Second Coming, the demon knows he can't hide anymore.
Perched on the Rim of the Stars by Kitty_Kat_Undercover (M)
Aziraphale is more alone than he's ever been, seated on the edge of eternity. All the glory of the stars in the sky only remind him painfully of what he's left behind.
Below, in the beautiful chaos of life on Earth, Crowley watches over an empty bookshop and a broken heart, guiding wayward angels and searching for some sign of his lost love.
Now, his Angel is in trouble, and Crowley finds himself in the charge of two foolish beings, with no idea how to save them all. It's going to take them working together, and facing the reality of who they both truly are.
