i know i said i did not want to talk about the nolan odyssey but i do have one more nodyssey post in me. i actually think the idea of odysseus understanding his story as existing both in and out of a historic timeframe is a fun way to handle the liminality caused by the story being part of an extensive oral tradition. however having him say "our age of bronze is collapsing" is perhaps not the way i would have done that

My feeling remains that long distance relationships are kind of stupid. And they are, with everyone else's stupid boyfriends (sorry. I'm sure your boyfriends are lovely) but like. at this point in the cyclospora situation I'm mostly annoyed by bad reporting... "45 states affected" but then I look up my own state and it's like. our numbers so far are similar to...every other summer. because this is something that does have a small number of cases annually! a couple of reported cases do not mean a state is "affected by the outbreak." obviously with the way supply chains are and the fact that there's a lag time on symptoms it's not ridiculous to be cautious, but that reporting is simply not accurate.
