Okay. In the Dune Universe, some men used the power of computing and artificial intelligence to gain power over others. Not in a Skynet way, but more of 'the rich and powerful use computers and AI to get more rich and powerful and everyone else eats shit' kind of way.
This triggered a religious uprising in which the old elite were butchered and their computers smashed and all electronic intelligence banned forever.
The result of this was the development of techniques to maximize human power. The Bene Gesserit's body control and observational skills. The massive intellect of Mentats - human computers. The unstoppable combat skills of Swordmasters. Guild Navigators, who get high on magical drugs, see the future and guide space ships safeely at FTL speeds.
Of course, this all takes resources, so this just created new elite nobles with the money to employ/become these kinds of people, who oppressd the masses and treated them as garbage.
Goodbye to the old boss, hello to the new.
It is pretty much the essence of Dune that all revolutions simply lead to a new set of bosses, as bad or worse than the previous ones.
Leto 'II tries to break that cycle and just ensures many small-scale tyrant maniacs instead of one big one.
I can never get enough tomarry growing up together fics 😩😭
adam: how did you know you were in love with blue?
gansey, gently, thinking that perhaps adam wants to have a long-overdue conversation about moving on from blue and the fact that gansey is dating her now: why do you ask?
adam: because ronan is gay and in love with me and I’ve known for ages and we just made out upstairs because I’m bi and definitely into him but I need to figure out if I’m actually in love with him too before I proceed any further because I don’t want to hurt him irreparably because it’s ronan
gansey:
i’m going. to throw up

the trifecta
A couple more from the reblogs...
And there was one about Jean, but I can't find it.
The "that's his serious face" exchange from the interview scene in Torn and Frayed is so Endearing to me, like... He's helping.
Like.....
He’s helping!!!!
Season 8 is the beginning of an important Cas era for me because I feel like it’s the point when he knows enough about humans to start being Confidently Wrong about things.
Like he genuinely does go through this fun little progression. Season 4 kind of surprised me on rewatch because I didn’t remember how much Cas just kind of, doesn’t register the (to him) weird incomprehensible shit Dean says. He does not engage with it, it just kind of slides right off him as he keeps trying to have the conversation he’s supposed to be having. He engages a little bit with metaphors and mirroring Dean’s language in moments of connection (”I am not a hammer as you say”) but mostly you just hear a faint wooshing noise as things sail over his head and he studiously ignores him. In season five when he’s actually all in on team Winchester, that’s when he starts actively questioning them and trying to understand them. He tells them when he doesn’t know what they’re talking about (”I don’t understand that reference.”), asks questions (”Who’s Glen Close?”), and tries to interpret them to the best of his ability, which often involves taking things very much at face value because he has no other option (”God’s not on any flatbread.”)
Season 6 is an extension of that, he’s getting better at understanding and communicating with them and he’s clearly making an active effort. Coming to head with the Superman going Dark Side line which is expertly designed to punish me specifically and make me feel bad and terrible and have to pause the episode and go do something else for a while. (He’s making a JOKE! He’s ECHOING THEM! He wants to Understand and be Understood by them so badly that it undoes everything he worked for!!! Kill me!!!)
Season 7 has Honey Cas who is no longer making any effort to be coherent even to himself. He is speaking nonsense and I love him, and this is kind of something that ends up carried forward a little bit in Cas’ characterization even after this era is over. This is when Cas starts Really starts just saying stuff and he never really stops. It’s not all about trying to fit his mode of communication to other people’s anymore, now people have to make the effort to understand Cas because he has got shit to Say.
Which brings us to season 8, he is now familiar enough with human interaction to participate casually and easily and he is also always doing it wrong. It’s amazing. He understands human connection but not human convention. A waitress comments that he likes coffee and he just starts telling her about when humanity first discovered it. This is a bizarre conversation for the waitress but also totally normal in terms of the broad strokes of how conversations work. The waitress makes small talk about the food and you chat back about your meal, maybe you tell her where the best version of it you ever had was, or why it’s your favourite, or how someone you know makes it in a real specific way.
This is diner small talk, Cas is following the social convention perfectly except that he’s an immortal being who does not eat and so his anecdote is off the wall bizarre. But he’s never going to be anything other than completely genuine about that because the whole point is being genuine! The whole point is he is sharing something about himself with this stranger, he’s not going to make it up, he’s going to tell her about how early humans chewed on the berries to get their caffeine, and they learned it from watching goats.
Anyway I love him and I’m so proud of him.
“what are you gonna do, cry about it?” yes . the fuck
i miss s5 cas he was so bitchy and intense and badass and autistic. he never blinked and he talked to dean from 3 inches away and he was rebelling against heaven and he branded enochian on his friends ribs and he found a liquor store and he drank it and he absolutely wrecked shop in knife fights and he carved banishing sigils into his own chest and he called raphael his bitch and he ate a million cheeseburgers and he never understood references and i love him so so so much <3
Reminder that Harry prized his connection with Voldemort and has always, consciously or unconsciously, refused to block it.

nimble, a border collie-papillon mix, wins the 12” class in the 2024 masters agility championship. the first time a mixed breed has won at westminster ever.
context explaining why the announcer is screaming, this is supposed to take a high level competitive agility dog 40 seconds
This video makes me cry every time it’s on my dash and I can’t even iterate why.
Like the dog doesn’t even know it’s a competition and she’s made history. She(?) just is happy and knows she made her owner happy too.
The face of a being with only a wind storm between their ears, moments before unleashing it unto the world
good girl
The way the dog leaps into their owners arms at the end is so sweet! Such a good dog and so much love as well.
Dean and Cas go on a game show and fucking demolish that shit. Castiel knows every fact in the entire universe and Dean knows every pop culture question there is. The win a trip to the Bahamas.
John’s voicemail: If this is an emergency, call my son.
Sam’s voicemail: If this is an emergency, call my brother.
Dean’s voicemail: If this is an emergency, leave a message or try my other phone.
Bro is his own emergency contact on top of being everyone else’s I’m going to throw myself under a jet ski

the funniest teen wolf scene isn’t a stiles scene but when scott joked he had to sleep with all of his customers as a new policy
Sometimes I hate that so many people in the fandom insist on making Harry softer than he is, like in those fanfics where he worries about every bad thing that could happen and doesn't wish any harm on anyone, he cries over pretty trivial things and doesn't even swear because it's too bad for him, whereas the canon Harry wished Snape dead in his sixth year, he criticizes everyone in his thoughts and feels tremendous discomfort with crying (I love characters who are emotionally open and let their pain out by crying, but my point is that Harry isn't one of them, and many fans characterize him as such, thinking of it as canon)
I think Harry is somewhat gray, because his canon version doesn't believe it's wrong to torture someone he knows is a bad person and has probably done the same; furthermore, he doesn't really oppose the idea of killing the villain, even though he identifies with him in several ways. I think Harry could easily wish death upon someone he hated (and some people disagree with this, mentioning Draco; however, I don't think Harry hated Draco at all. He simply disliked him greatly and considered him an enemy because he bullied him, but he didn't wish him death or any greater pain than a punch, if you know what I mean).
Other people also mention Peter, but I think that's very different because when Harry prevented Peter's death, he was thinking about the well-being of Sirius and Remus's souls, thinking that his father wouldn't have wanted them to be murderers (and this is because he now feels better knowing that his godfather/his father's best friend isn't guilty, because before he was in favor of killing Sirius violently). I think Peter didn't deserve to die ( in the sense that death is too good for him). Harry tried to prevent him from dying later, but at this point Peter had just chosen not to kill him, since Harry didn't really care when he died, I don't think he had anything but negative feelings towards him.
I mention this because I miss the characterization of Harry that is okay with death or pain and doesn't think of it as something too bad, that can see it as a fair destiny for some people.
