First point here, Skip story is a pivotal plot point for Hollanov. Without Skip, there is no cottage, no I love yous and them not getting officially together. If you watched the entire first season and not caught that, I'm afraid you missed the main point that is them having another queer player that inspires them to be themselves. Troy is also this important point for Ilya. Seeing Troy and Harris be together and out, reminded Ilya that he wanted that and could pursue it.

Look, I adore Hollanov with all my heart and they are obviously the protagonists, but having other queer stories playing on the side it is important not only for Hollanov storyline but also for the representation of the entire queer community that sees the show. Having this many queer characters in a show that is so incredibly popular is groundbreaking.

I really don't think that an actor shouldn't get an incredible role just because some called "fans" can't discern reality from fiction and believe that Joe and Kit equal Nick and Charlie in real life. Or that they need to be romantically involved in every project they may do together.
