Every injustice of the past you try to justify by saying it was a product of the times, you’re ignoring the marginalized people hurt by those injustices who were just as alive and sentient and a product of the times as the ones hurting them. People of certain ages of the past are not a monolith of political and social opinions. Marginalized people have always existed and they have always been fighting for their rights.

Your “people of their times” had victims who have descendants today who are still dealing with the generational trauma that your “people of their times” caused. The culture and policies of racism and antisemitism that your “people of their times” perpetuated still exists today.

growing up as a lesbian i think a lot of us end up feeling a sense of alienation because getting older is so heavily associated with developing an interest in men. when you never do you either get “left behind” or end up having to fake it to avoid the feeling of being left out by your peers because no one gives you a framework for growing into being a gay woman. your love for other women is so often seen as sign of immaturity at best and something dirty/warped at worst.

as a kid most ppl will characterize your disinterest in boys as just a childish “ew boys are icky” phase instead of maybe a genuine lack of attraction. so as you get older everyone persists in thinking of your disinterest as something stunted about your personality. your close bonds with women around you get put down to clingness and an inability to move on into relationships with men. like lmfao it’s so ugly how badly ppl want to convince young lesbians there’s something wrong with them rather than entertaining the idea maybe gay kids exist

not to mention if you’re a butch/gnc lesbian you get hit with everyone holding their breath for the minute you give up being an “ugly duckling” and finally give in to performing femininity or if you’ve grown up performing femininity ppl treat you like shit for getting “uglier” when you realize maybe you’re not comfortable being feminine

I used to cringe so hard at my “I’m not like other girls” phase until I realized that most girls have this phase and what we actually mean is, “I’m not a thoughtless one-dimensional caricature of makeup and boobs, which is all I’ve been taught to believe girls are.” How can women be viewed so poorly that little girls everywhere all think they’re unique just for having independent thoughts and interests?
