Doctor says I got the depression from a lavender bush growing outside my house. Yep. The smell drifting in through open windows in the summer heat made me melancholy. [reacting to everyone's incredulousness and getting defensive and aggressive] I'm telling you that's what he fucking SAID. He said scents can bring about a mournfulness in the soul. No. He said there's nothing to be done about it now
Feeling a lot of shame because of atypically strong sugar cravings. I'm usually satisfied by fairly modest amounts and keep a perhaps too-strict eye on that satisfaction, throwing on the brakes when I've determined the pleasure of the food has hit diminishing returns.
Post-partum, I have become a machine that turns sugar into breast milk, one that is demanding easily 2-3x my normal sugar consumption.
Nasty thoughts swirl. Shaming me. Snarky comments about how did my ancestors survive, since they couldn't possibly have gotten this much refined sugar in one place. Stupid bullshit about inflammation. It seeps into how I feed my toddler, urging me to restrict his sugar intake as well as my own.
Foolish thoughts. If my ancestors could see that I can easily satisfy the roaring cravings and make strong, rich milk for my child, they would beat any haters to death.
Here's "Blephomet" in all his stubby glory! I have FINALLY made him into an enamel pin ❤️ If you wanna snatch one of these cuties, here is my art shop:

I can't shake this feeling that I'm Doing It Wrong. I feel like I've forgotten how to interact with my toddler. And, like, things are wrong -- sleep schedule out of whack, continued physical limitations that are only very slowly abating. But my brain takes this information and says, "Hmm. Must be my fault. Let's search for all the ways we're failing."
I need some kind of mantra to repeat when I'm falling into that thought pattern.

pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.

Cozy and snug.
religion is so fucking funny the world is just too beautiful there must be a higher entity behind all this. lets oppress women
I can go for a walk with my son.
I can see something needs to be done in my house and I can do it.
The newborn is on a doctor-ordered schedule of feeding every 3 hours, timing starting at the start of each feed. This is brutal, and with my mental health swiftly tanking (and baby not taking feeds that often anyway), I've had to modify to every 4 hours at night. It's still brutal, but I've stopped crying so much.
I felt like I betrayed my firstborn, but that feeling is starting to fade
I am rebounding hard from the diabetes and my body only wants carbs. I will make rich milk for my child.
I am thinking about how useless the advice "it gets better" is. We use it for so much -- adolescence, loneliness, illness, known transient challenges. But it gives you no advice as to how to manage the awful thing while it's awful. It's meant to be a balm against despair, but surely with how universal these kinds of suffering are, we can do better for advice than the bare minimum?
Post-partum with child number 2 has been a lot. I knew that child number 1 would get jealous, but the thing is, whenever people talk about that phenomenon, they talk about how it gets better. Which is good to know, but not particularly useful when it hasn't gotten better yet.
I can't pick up my eldest because of my pre-delivery injuries, but I can my youngest because he is smole. I agree with my eldest -- it's unfair.

Went to my ultrasound, unclear if I was leaking because of my injury, because pregnancy, or if my water has broken. The MFM was very reassuring about just going to get checked out.
OPI "Funny Bunny,” with mermaid chrome overlay. Ring finger is the OPI chrome overlay.
The little one is au naturel.
Worsened an old injury. I am very, very close to calling it and just going on maternity leave. Between contractions and a groin pull, ordinary changes in position are awful. And the groin pull involves the pelvic floor, so now my pregnancy incontinence is even worse.
Divine feminine my hemorrhoidal ass.
I was going to put an iridescent chrome over OPI "Kyoto Pearl" but I kept putting it off and I convinced myself it wouldn't look good anyway. I'll try with a different white.
Went to triage again, as I had been instructed to return if the contractions got nasty. There is some cervical change, but not enough. My husband thinks the nurse was trying to inject levity by saying I "needed to be more uncomfy." I responded that I'd been in pain for five months, so how was I supposed to tell what was painful enough?
It's a good thing to not have a premature baby. But holy shit does it suck to be sent home with worsening (but not worse enough) contractions. So many people in my life inconvenienced, and I feel foolish, and also, ow.
I still haven't figured out how to photograph ILNP "Deep Space."
Inside me are two wolves, both from 1965 Russo-Finnish production "Jack Frost."
One is Nastynka. "Oh, I'm fine, Grandfather Frost." *Continues seeing patient through active contraction*
One is Malfushka. "HyDrAtE?! Can't you see my fingers and toes are swollen?"
i do not “delete sentences” when they start “hindering the plot” i COPY PASTE THEM into a SEPARATE DOC made just for keeping all my USELESS LINES that i will also NEVER USE so therefore i should JUST DELETE THEM but i DONT because id FEEL BAD if i did
You don't actually have to kill your darlings. You can just put them in the oubliette #myoubliette

I know these nails are fine, but I am crabby and I think the faint glitter topcoat I put over them just looks dirty.
I am being unreasonable, but this is the most harmless unreasonable I can currently manage.
Ended up in the hospital for a few hours in what turned out to be false labor.
Now I am back home, and it sure as shit don't feel false, I tell you what. I've painted my nails and I feel dissatisfied with the result. I'm laying on my side because it offers some relief. I'm wondering if this pain is going to keep waxing and waning, because holy hell when it waxes all I want is for it to stop.
We are very simple creatures. We do not want to be in pain.
I hope my water breaks in a big obvious way so I can stop wondering how much longer it will be.
