The baby so far 🐉 still got a few bits to add but Im quite happy with it so far
If you dare come at me about banning straws, I will throw you into the sun cannon. I’m disabled, I’m crippled, I need disposable plastic straws, and all those pricey ridiculous alternatives aren’t working as well. Plastic straws were invented for the disabled.
Way to shit all over a vital access need because you think straws are worse than corporate greed.
We all care about the turtles, the seals, the oceans, obviously. Notice how the easiest thing to yell about was something that would barely affect anything but appealed heavily to emotional discourse.
The disabled community is huge, and it can be joined by anyone. Most of those As Seen On TV products were invented for us. Society still mocks us and ignores us, and often outright harms us in multiple ways.
Communicate better. Listen better. But stop putting us out in the cold because you are inconvenienced by our simplest needs.
Straws aren’t killing the planet, its animals, or people. They’re a microscopic fraction of an iota of a percentage of the problem. You want to do something? Ban plastic fishing nets. Anything else is just a hollow feel-good gesture at the expense of real living disabled people.

i have an environmental degree and i’ve been saying this since this straw ‘debate’ started: its all a tactic by those in power to distract people’s attention from bigger issues such as fishing waste. don’t fall for it. and don’t be a dick to disabled people who need straws to make their lives easier.
Great explanation on why plastic straws are vital for the disabled community
First video is an explanation of the overall problem and the second is exactly why each alternative straw doesn’t work
And the fact that I offered Jessica’s videos right after the original post years ago and hundreds of people still ignored them in favor of hassling me about alternatives really said something. I’m hoping that this time people will actually pay attention enough to shut up.
Yes there’s corn and hemp straws. But we can’t ignore all the folks allergic and intolerant of corn and hemp. Stop bringing it up. Stop proudly declaring how well silicone works for you or your family. That’s not the point. You’re not advocating if you’re making it more about you than the whole situation.
Also, buy me a pack of silicone straws and a pack of energy drinks and cleaning supplies if you want me to switch. Don’t assume I have the ability to maintain that shit.

I’ve read that Agatha said she loved being married to an archaeologist because the older she got, the more interesting he found her. And I think that is one of the best quotes about love that I have ever heard.

Represent! #4 - “Believe You” (2021)
written by Nadira Jamerson art by Brittney Williams & Andrew Dalhouse
So there’s this attitude among some historians that the Nazis “only” killed certain disabled people who couldn’t contribute to society and left others alone. This isn’t true. Nazis killed every type of disabled people. They often would just clear out entire hospitals, no matter the patient’s health. There are cases of them killing people for having shell shock from bombings and epilepsy from working on the front lines. Basically, they killed anyone disabled that they could. It was a genocide of disabled people. Nazis killed hundreds of thousands of disabled people through starvation, lethal injections, and through gassing (they perfected the art of mass killing through gassing on disabled people before using it on Jewish people).
But there’s this ableist attitude among some historians that almost tries to excuse it or explain it away. The attitude seems to try to give a “reason” for the genocide of a people and dismiss the hundreds of thousands of disabled victims killed by the Nazis. From the historians who are studying it and supposed to be educating others in it! I have no idea how to combat this attitude, especially when it exists with some of the world renowned holocaust historians. It’s been really frustrating seeing this from other historians as a disabled holocaust historian myself because it’s just blatantly incorrect and dismisses the worth that every disabled person has.
Here’s the new 24 hour comic I drew this year! This one is called THE KING’S FOREST. cw: blood, violence
How the fuck did you make that last panel say so many things without using any words at all that’s so fucking cool.

hi. I can’t tell you how many times as a disabled person I have minimized my own needs in order to do something with a non-disabled person. Many disabled people don’t share their needs out of fear that their disabilities are too much. bye. [/end ID]

DISABLED PERSON: It is unsafe for me to do this thing.
ABLED PERSON: Do it anyway. It will be fine.
It is never fine. Trust disabled people. We know our bodies better than you do.

At least one is coming this summer: The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo
Description from Goodreads:
“Jordan Baker grows up in the most rarefied circles of 1920s American society―she has money, education, a killer golf handicap, and invitations to some of the most exclusive parties of the Jazz Age. She’s also queer and Asian, a Vietnamese adoptee treated as an exotic attraction by her peers, while the most important doors remain closed to her.
But the world is full of wonders: infernal pacts and dazzling illusions, lost ghosts and elemental mysteries. In all paper is fire, and Jordan can burn the cut paper heart out of a man. She just has to learn how.”
Author Nghi Vo has also written the novellas Empress of Salt and Fortune and When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain, both of which feature excellent storytelling and finely-drawn queer characters (plus Tiger is sapphic as hell).
You can pre-order The Chosen and the Beautiful on Bookshop.org and/or request your local library to pre-order copies!
Thank you this sounds amazing!
