Regarding your mute questions, I want clarification on timeline and trigger. Did this 15yo go through anything traumatic or development-hindering? This impacts the reason and resolution for the mutism.
Also, I remember watching a documentary about a little girl who didnt have the ability to smile so she got surgery. It was a good month before the girl smiled in front of her mom and her mom was shocked bc the girl said she had been able to do it for over a week and she just wanted to practice in the mirror before showing her mom.
I bring that story up bc if the 15yo suddenly starts talking, thats actually unrealistic. While you CAN use your voice after not using it for a long time (coma patients, for example), its still a muscle that needs use and practice. So, in my head, I am imagining the 15yo practicing for months or even years before doing so in public. Plus, after never talking in public before, it could also be traumatizing in the way that its embarrassing or anxiety inducing.
He was extremely, extremely sheltered. Raised by wetnurses and maids - rarely around his father. Mother died having him. It was a Von Trapp type of situation where he learned to never swear, never be impolite, never shun anyone, etc etc. And I ask because I don't know anyone mute, nor was I ever mute - i really appreciate you answering!! My little sisters used to have speech therapists, as they were ADHD/ASD twin girls. But I don't remember much of what they went through, as it was in very early childhood. He's been out in public, he just never ended up speaking as a child. Though, I think he would practice by himself in private. He had speech therapists and everything. I think ill go with the boy practicing, that makes a ton of sense. The first time in the canon story he is supposed to talk (though it's subject to change) would be him asking his very gruff and traditional father if he could go out on his own for a day to the park.
