thinking about Shane and Ilya post-retirement who both get a chubby. for Shane it’s so hard to let go of the control of his strict diet after so many years, but after they have kids, he realizes how important variety and fun is in food, and he never wants his daughters to worry about food the way he did. it’s not easy, but it’s healing. and Ilya just loves getting to watch Shane eat and enjoy eating, he loves ordering two meals at a restaurant and sharing everything with his husband, loves eating cake with Shane and licking the flavor out of his mouth. they definitely get into whipped cream too lol. it unlocks a whole new world in which food = pleasure and Shane has gone so long denying himself pleasure, and as he moves away from the high-pressure environment of being a professional athlete and moves away from the unhealthy coping mechanisms that environment fostered, he discovers so many things he loves: banh mi, fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and lots of parm, a big plate of nachos covered in lots of cheese and toppings, fried chicken, all sorts of pasta salads, a good bowl of chili with a slice of cornbread, ICE CREAM HE LOVEEEEES ICE CREAM they’ll take their daughters out for ice cream and Ilya will tease Shane for taste testing at least five different flavors every time before he picks one. and he loves cooking with Ilya, they trying new recipes and even doing like blue apron for awhile where they can learn how to cook meals with ingredients they might not be familiar with. it becomes so fun, and again, healing, to be making food that brings him and his family joy. and they both gain some weight, they get a little chubby, yeah they’re still fit, they’re active in life and with their girls, but they both get softer tummies, Ilya’s thighs get a little bigger, Shane’s ass gets a little bigger (much to Ilya’s delight), and they’re even more obsessed with each other than they’ve ever been.
