nobody numa numas like they used to
(wistfully) mai-ia-hee... mai-ia- hoo....
waaaay back when I was a cashier in retail we would talk about dumb shit while unloading the truck, and we got to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse" me and another worker were like yeah we would just die. End it all, we can't fight or run or shit. I refuse to put that much effort into survival.
And my manager was like no!!!! If that happened, I would drive to find you guys in my truck and we could eat stuff from my wife's garden and I would make sure everyone I know survived!! I would carry you all on my shoulders away from the zombies!!
Anyway, random shout out to that guy. You were too kind for retail management, Devin.
Yeah okay there are like 11 species of heron native to the USA and yes fine Iâve only managed to spot 10 of those species. You might think Iâm bitter about that one species evading me but Iâm not. Iâm actually the Least Bittern person about it in the entire world

me, mentally flipping through the various daydream universes iâve crafted up like records in a crate: hmm, which fantasy shall i indulge in tonight?
Even in a post-capitalist, post-consumerist world, you still need to produce goods, as a result of this, you need factories because it is more effective to have a few people making a lot of clothes in a factory than every woman being forced to sit down and spin wool all day.
The issue with factories is poor wages, unsafe working conditions and environmental impact, all of which can be fixed through things like regulatory bodies and unions, the issue is not the fact that goods are no longer all made at home
one of the worst things abt being australian is always seeing out of touch thursday posts on fridays. makes me feel somewhat. out of touch.
"emotionless robot feels for the first time" trope but instead of it being because of love or compassion its hatred.
THAT'S IT, IT'S FINALLY ALL WASHED!! The whole Romeldale CVM fleece!!
Now to comb all the fleece that hasn't already been combed...
Spent most of my free time the last three and a half days combing wool. So far I've got one bag down, and four more to go still. This is not including the wool from this fleece that I already had combed before I finished washing the rest of it, which I left out of the picture.
I definitely can not keep up this pace or my arm will fall off lol, so I imagine the rest of the bags will take longer.
So now my problem is that I really like combing wool, and anytime I'm kind of bored or want something to keep my hands busy, my brain immediately goes "let's comb some of that fleece!" Meanwhile, my poor shoulder is like "PLEASE, A DAY OFF, I'M BEGGING YOU!!" But I must comb. It is just as relaxing as spinning to me, but it's much easier to do at my desk while I watch things and AFK in FFXIV.
Oof that is a MOOD. I spent the past month processing & spinning fiber like a madwoman and my brain was happily skipping along while my hands were crying out for me to stop.
The problem is, all of my hobbies use my hands in little fiddly ways and I couldn't switch to a different hobby to give my hands a break. so.... well. I'm playing chicken.
For a little variation in movement, maybe you could flick the tips of the fleeces with a flick carder or dog slicker brush for a while, then comb them fully later when you've had some time to recover? That's what I've done to make combing less strength-intensive when I've been working with very inelastic fibers. Breaking it down into two steps seems a little easier on the hands overall.
Bravo for getting all that fleece washed, though!! no small feat

I'm gonna say this, and it's gonna spark a defensive reaction within some of you, but I need you to listen to me and let it sit for a moment before I explain further. It is not a personal stain against your morality.
From both my experience reading works by white writers, and my experience running this blog, I have come to the conclusion that many white writers are too used to relying on Whiteness being understood as the default experience of both your characters and your readers, and it makes you weaker writers with weaker technique overall.
One thought I find myself having often is "well, what do you do for your white characters?" I've grown to understand... Many of you don't đ you don't actually understand or apply character design techniques because it is Assumed⢠that the reader understands- that the reader has the white gaze. It doesn't need to be Said that your character is white, and will do familiar white things. It is Assumed⢠that white characters fall under the Magicking It Away rules automatically, while Black characters have to have reality applied to them first. You don't actually have to... Well, write.
The brilliant Toni Morrison explained this in an interview of hers (here's another; watch her doc!!!) that there's this assumption that one's readers are white. So when she would purposefully- and there's a difference!- write stories for the Black gaze, that certain things didn't have to be explained because we Understood, it would get frustrating for white readers. They felt left out, unappealed to, hurt.
And yet, that's standard fare- and everyone's not writing such specific stories like Toni! To be "fair", we did understand y'all. We had to. But those same techniques, both in writing and in media consumption, I believe are atrophied from white viewers ("I don't watch this because I don't relate!" Or projection of ones own identity into Black characters to be "relatable") because it's not Socially Required for you to apply them.
It's why I'm always telling y'all to study Black creations about Black people. Writing is a craft, and a craft has to be honed!! You have to practice!! I had a whole lesson on this and I feel like everyone glossed over it lmao. I promise it'll make your writing of EVERY character better overall. đđž
Reblog if you remember this motherfucker:
ooh i have a nice fun fact!
Static was WILDLY popular in Brazil (a country where the population is over 50% black) and we had re-runs for YEARS on open television. Everyone who was a kid in the 2000s knew and loved him. As a result, every single Brazilian Con has a LOT of static cosplayers!
So, a couple of years ago, Comic Con Experience (the biggest con in Brazil, which is actually also the biggest con in the world!) invited one of Staticâs creator Denys Cowan as one of the guests of honor.
Now. Thousands of people attend his panel. And cosplayers went NUTS because they could show their Static cosplay to the creator himself! What none of us expected was Debts Cowanâs reaction:
He cried on stage.
He had never seen Static cosplayers - especially not so many of them! And he had no idea the show was popular here! No one ever told him his character was so beloved! Years and years of reruns and he had no idea! He obviously created the character with his experiences and his community (Black North Americans) in mind. Still, he accidentally touched a whole other community of black people who could see themselves on the screen as a superhero!
Anyway he is a lovely person and one of the best, most memorable guests we had. And I think this is a nice reminder that your art might touch people you canât even imagine would when creating it.
Edit: I said âthe creatorâ when i shouldâve said âone of the creatorsâ, its edited now, but while he isnt the one who came to brazil itâs important to say Dwayne McDuffie was another important figure to static shock!! Both are black men who paved the way in comic book history! Thank you @sokumotanaka for pointing it out.
The crazy part about pain is that it actually hurts alot
i think very often about this story i once heard about a dom who made jewelry. he made a short, delicate chain as a leash for his partner - I think the other end might have connected to a ring he wore. it was so fine it would have been very easy to break.
so as he went about the party they were hosting, his sub had to be completely cued into him and mindful of his every move. too close and she'd be in his way, too far and she'd damage this beautiful thing he spent so much time to make for her. can you imagine how much attentiveness that would take? how much the person on the other end of the chain would become the center of your focus and everything you do?
i think as fun as physical bondage is, mental bondage is really underrated. i love restraints you could break, but actively choose not to as an act of obedience. i love restraints that would be easy to break, so the thing that keeps you in them is knowing it's what your partner wants. that motivation to obey what they want for you can consume your entire focus, while for them it's just as passive as if the restraints actually forced you to obey - or it can be something they challenge and make actively difficult for you, because you can't rely on that sturdiness of actual bondage, it's all up to you and your willpower.
People in my notes of my youth liberation post keep asking me if I think kids should be allowed in bars, and it's driving me up the wall for two main reasons:
1. My original post was talking about the ways I watched my mother get harassed for bringing toddlers to *the grocery store.* Jumping to "omg so you think kids should be allowed in BARS?!" is a hell of a stretch.
2. If you have to be 18 or 21 to get into a bar/club, duh, that's not a place for kids. They check ID at the door for a reason. But not every bar is like that. My favorite local bar is actually a brewery and family pub with board games and big tables for game nights. They host food trucks and have a nice outdoor seating area. I have been up there for multiple community events that welcome kids and families. I have literally held a toddler at the pub while their mama got herself a glass of cider from the bar as an "I just stopped breastfeeding and can have a drink again" treat. Family-friendly establishments that also serve alcohol are, like, 100% a thing. Hell, *Applebee's* has both a kids' menu and an alcohol menu.

Not to be all "the children have forgotten the sacred texts!" but I just saw someone refer to a ship between two people who are good friends in canon as a crackship.
Hon. No. Crackship doesn't just mean "not canon". It's difficult to imagine two people who spend significant canon time together as a crackship. Crackship is when you write Galactus getting fucked by Tony the Tiger.
Gotta say, my absolute favourite notes on this so far have been the number of people congratulating Tony on his rebound from the Grinch.
