I think the same. I don't understand what is wrong in thinking that though? Like thats the most apt description of John winchester. He was a complicated man who thought what he was doing with his children was him protecting. Did he stole dean's childhood? Indeed. Was he abusive, somewhat? Yes. He deserve the hate but he did good things too. He was a bad father and a husband, until mary was alive. May be one of the reason he went that hard was he felt guilty. Like whatever but he is a nuanced character and no matter if cynifer and other hellers tells this or not there is always a pretext that they think he was homophobic, and somehow that made dean not coming out a reason. It explains the delusional thought in their mind making it like John repressed poor dean's gayness.
John hated his son's but especially dean, the poor guy. Sam and adam were loved of course. Its funny how they hate John so much. Something tells me if John tortured Sam and loved dean, they wouldn't give a damn about it, and love John. The only reason John is considered the literal devil was because somehow in their tiny mind they think John hates Dean the most.
Don't ever let the fool you. The only reason they hate him is because they think he beat the gay out of Dean. They would hate any father the show portrayed.
