i’m coining a new literary criticism called feralism and it’s when you wildly misread the text as a glamorization of hedonism like how we as a society read the great gatsby and now want to throw banging 20s themed gatsby parties or read the secret history and want to hold a bacchanal. it recognizes literature as a vessel for the repressed human need to just lose your fucking mind.

Just in case people want source, here you go: humans are compelled to help each other in disaster situation, humans feel an innate urge to help others. We will help strangers too, not just family, and it has been tested. 

Also we’ve always taken care of our elderly and disabled. When life was literally “hunt and gather every day to live”, we saw value in taking care of those with disabilities.

“survival of the fittest” is misused so much too, like it was never meant to mean “the individuals who are most muscular/healthy survive”, it’s about how whole SPECIES that adapt to their ENVIRONMENT (for instance, the way we adapted by creating medical tech and social systems) tend to thrive. it was never meant to be taken as a fucking mandate, esp not to be some hyperindividualist asshole, and people who use it like that literally understand nothing about what they’re saying.
