Perhaps they think it’s disempowering to explicitly talk about women getting raped or assaulted, but by removing the specific cause of the “feminine rage,” they sanitize the conditions of violence that women live in. They turn “rage” into some spiritual woman power that they have been denied by men, cutting actual violent misogyny out of the picture. They constantly reference Salem witches being burned at the stake, but almost never talk about the plague of sexual violence and femicide that exists today, especially towards trans and POC women, who I likewise almost never see included in this content. It is a fake rage with no cause, no direction, it is whitewashed aesthetic “rebellion” that refuses to challenge any taboo or even fully face the oppression Ira supposedly fueled by.

Her neighbors have called the cops a bunch but have been told that it’s not illegal to fake being an old lady in peril so soft-hearted tourists or newcomers are nice to you. One of the neighbors sometimes yells “oh, get up, Lois!” at her. But overall local sentiment is that this is at least somewhat enviable levels of not giving a fuck.

k2 is the best and my most favoritest mountain. it is big, mean, and hates you specifically. it has one of the most beautifully distinct silhouettes in the world. it may not even have an indigenous name, as the research has been divided, and now in local languages people just call it k2. it's almost unbelievably remote, utterly brutal, horribly difficult, and wants to kill you. i cannot stress enough how much this mountain wants to kill you. the team of Sherpas who summited it in the winter might be the coolest 10 people alive on earth and i am in awe of their skills and ability to not piss off this mountain that had previously either thrown off or killed every single other winter expedition. prior to 2021 it killed 1 of every 4 people who attempted to climb it. the 1953 american ascent led to two of the most incredible and heroic actions of any mountaineer, ever. by different men. getting to it is nearly impossible. it's within spitting distance of two other eight thousanders and makes both of them look nice and small. it is perhaps the most perfect mountain on earth. i hope it kills me.

Beyond his art, Neal Adams is rightfully remembered as an eternal champion of creators’ rights and for the part he & his work played in the Comics Code revision of ‘71 but his contribution to John Stewart’s creation is – I think –  a rather underrated aspect of his career, especially as it’s such a great reminder of the kind of person he was.
