Ugh that post has gotten me thinking about fat acceptance in a way I havenāt in years. Iāve read more studies about weight and health than probably any other topic Iāve ever researched. And every time I see someone wail about health I am just like
Did you know that in post-mortem examinations there is zero correlation between weight and levels of arteriosclerosis and related diseases found?
Did you know that people with an overweight BMI have the longest life expectancy, that those with an āidealā and an āobeseā have about the same life expectancy, and that being āunderweightā raises mortality rates more than being āmorbidly obeseā?
Did you know that losing weight and then gaining it back is worse for your heart than remaining at the weight you started consistently?
Did you know that 95% of people who lose weight do gain it back, and there has never been a single documented weight loss program that has been demonstrated to keep the weight off for five years or more in the majority or even a significant minority of people? Like, telling people to lose weight isnāt much use if we donāt know HOW to make that happen.
Like I have read The Obesity Myth by Paul Campos and Rethinking Thin by Gina Kolata and Big Fat Lies by Glenn A Gaesser (Ph.D!) And Fat!So? and several other books that I donāt own and so donāt remember all of their names I spent like four years reading every single study coming out and looking at the methodology and noting which ones had huge holes or terrible methods and which didnāt (the holes were almost always in the pro-weight-loss studies) and like
Big Fat Lies hasĀ 27 pagesĀ of bibliography.Ā 27 pagesĀ worth of scientific citation. The book content itself is only 197 pages. Thatās a page of references for every 7 pages of book. Reading the book is just reference after reference and study after study. Most of these doctors (like Linda Bacon, author of Health at Every Size) started out the same way. They wanted to use the scientific method to find a real weight loss program or health solution that worked and could be proven to work, and so studied everything they could about weight and fitness only to find out thatĀ we didnāt need weight loss in the first place.Ā That all the studies calling for it were lacking or nonexistent. That weight and underlying metabolic health have very little relation. That the history of our relationship with health and obesity has little basis in fact and a LOT of basis in capitalism, politics, and fashion. No, really, the association between weight and health was first proposed by insurance companies looking for ways to charge people more by claiming risk. They also charged tall and short people more. And people with different skin colors. When they got in trouble for charging people for things they had no control over and had no bearing on their health, they set out to prove that weight was controllable and that fat was unhealthy to make money.Ā
These are also a lot of the same people who went on to invent the Presidentās fitness program, so if you went to public school you probably already hate them.Ā
Anyway, if you want a place to start reading about the issue, this article is a pretty good launching pad.Ā
This casual rant is like a primer on weight science. Amazing. I second their book recommendations, and would add to the list Body Respect by Drs Bacon & Aphramor, Body of Truth by journalist Harriet Brown, and Whatās Wrong with Fat? by UCLA professor of sociology Abigail Saguy.
man I remember that time I reblogged an anti-fatphobia post and lost a follower andĀ reader who took the time to come into my DMs and rant about how betrayed he felt that I, who he had trusted and respected, would dare to signal boost content that made people feel like it was okay to be fat. how dare I
anyway the weightloss industry is a scam
i feel like utter shit

The names of the Club Q victims are out. Letās pay our respects to each of them and celebrate their lives.
Daniel Davis Aston, 28
Daniel was a bartender at Club Q. An outspoken trans man, he continuously helped raise donations for Black trans people on his Instagram. He was āthe light in every roomā according to his close friend.
Raymond Green
Raymond was celebrating his friendās birthday when the shots broke out. His friend Rich apprehended the shooter as he died. After his death, his girlfriend posted on Facebook, āu are my home. my heart. my everything. u changed my life. u made life worth living.ā
Kelly Loving, 40
After moving from Florida, Kelly was new to the Colorado scene. A nurturing soul, she was ālike a trans motherā to her friends. āShe was loving, always trying to help the next person out instead of thinking of herself. She just was a caring person,ā her sister told the New York Times.
Ashley Paugh, 35
Ashley and her friends decided to go to Club Q after spending time shopping and getting dinner together. She was a family woman and ālived for her daughterā according to her sister. She is survived by her husband and 11-year-old child.
Derrick Rump, 38
Always bubbly and joking, Derrick had no shortage of friends in the community. He was a part owner of Club Q. āHe was a kind loving person who had a heart of gold,ā his mother told reporters. āHe was always there for my daughter and myself when we needed him also his friends from Colorado which he would say was his family also. He was living his dream and he would have wanted everyone to do the same.ā
Colorado Gives is the official donation site for the survivors and victimsā families. Please donate if you can!

A young man stands in his bedroom. It just so happens that today, the 13th of April, 2009, is this young man's birthday. Though it was thirteen years ago he was given life, it is only today he will be given a name! What will the name of this young man be?
>Enter name.
got an idea for a song itās called moonsetter
*multiplies you by 1*
Ach im the exact same but a process has occurred
I'm thinking about this post and i have decided that it is one of those things that is a poem in some undefinable way
āif no art makes you feel anything, make your own art and feel somethingā is too raw of a line to have come from a jenna marbles video of her painting a rainbow/polka dot seahorse saying āitās seahorse timeā on a denim jacket
Why do you people feel profound thought has to come from high places? The gutter looks at the stars too
not only did you prove your point, but you showed an example of it in the same sentence

I just made a new sideblog and found out this setting is disabled by default.
This means that ALL new blogs will NOT have a [username].tumblr.com page. Not only that, but they will not have any themes besides the mobile-default.
As someone who really likes custom themes and Tumblr still having a fully customizable profile page, please turn this on!
You can make a website for your tumblr blog that is entirely your own!
Visiting your mutualās tumblr pages will become much more fun if they do the same! I used to always associate blogs with the themes they had , but thatās sadly not possible anymore :(
If Tumblr themes die out, it will truly be an end of an era for the internet, and the future will hold only mobile-orientated, endless-scroll design devoid of personality.
Even if you donāt like themes, this is a move that almost destroys Tumblrās origin as a blogging website and showcases the takeover of social-media-sameness.
Having your own URL and custom theme is fun! Try it today!!!
i feel like an important thing to mention is that having a custom theme isnāt just fun, thereās also utility to it
a few things you may or may not know about:
BLOG ARCHIVE!!! you can find your archive at [url].tumblr.com/archive, although a ton of custom theme templates have a link to it built in (usually called something likeĀ āpastā). this makes it considerably easier to find things if your blog is full of junk like mine, and you can search tags in it as well!
actual, functional, looking at the tags on your blog instead of the weird out-of-order search function that you get from the dashboard version. again, really good for finding shit if you organize it properly.Ā
AAAAND something i think some people may not know about: the ability to look at things in chronological order (not reverse chronological, actual chronological). wanna find the oldest shit in a tag? check out [url].tumblr.com/tagged/[whatever]/chrono.Ā
also custom pages and etc. there is a ton of stuff you can do with themes. if you know html you can touch the skies you can do whatever the hell you want
AND LIKE. to be clear. you donāt have to customize your theme at all to get any of these! you can have the plain default situation and still check out your archive and tags and whatnot. picking out a theme can be a daunting task, as can customizing it, and itās perfectly fine to enable this and then not do anything with it. Please do it. for your friends. for me

future me this is ur reminder to tag all the homestuck posts with homestuck for later character analysis reference
i realized the homestuck discord's classpecting is just now populated with people who are just mostly interested in the superficial aspects of it
