I’m reading The Deviants War: The Homosexual vs The United States of America and the entire point of gay pride as a concept comes from police raids on bars, clubs, public restrooms, etc where gays were humiliated and outed in the newspapers (sometimes with their addresses!) and had careers ruined and lives upended by being associated with perversion and vice squads and all that and they responded by going “no I’m proud” and took that pride to the streets in defiance of the huge mechanism of shame that existed to oppress the gay community into obscurity and so the fact that people are now trying to apply conservative dogma to pride parades to make them “safe for children” or in other words “safe for people with oppressive conservative values” is simply insane

To phrase this more clearly: “public indecency” laws were the primary tool for brutally enforcing gender and sexual conformity, so applying a “public indecency” lens to pride parades of all things is a slap in the face of everyone who ever suffered under gender & sexual oppression and took their anger (and yes their pride!) to the streets. If it makes you uneasy or uncomfortable maybe you’re not on the side you think you are!

You listen to music regularly? Why? Have you even tried quitting? Could you quit? You get music stuck in your head? Wow. You're so ruined and music brained. I bet you make your partners listen to music with you when you have sex. Music addiction has really ruined a whole generation. You know it's not realistic to expect reverb in real life, right? i’m gonna cry it’s raining right now and i just passed by a family where both parents were without an umbrella but their kid who couldn’t have been older than like 3-4 was proudly holding this GIANT umbrella whose diameter was as tall (if not taller) as the kid. both the parents were getting absolutely drenched but u could tell the kid was just so happy to have an “adult” task and carry the umbrella themselves and i think that sacrifice is what love is all about

Generally a good take, but I don't think it's good to promote misinformation regarding the presence of Russian agents interfering in our electoral process. Those accounts (most likely white people in digital blackface) reposted black tweets to imitate black people and promoted division between minorities and the idea that voting was pointless, to enable Trump's election without a strong coalition to oppose him, and is part of the problem described here. Reichblr is a group of Nazi fetishists (a few neo-Nazis, mostly white history buffs who think the Nazi high command was hot, and the odd Jew processing cultural trauma) and not representative of an existing hostile foreign government, so its continued existence is not an example of hypocrisy. I believe the modern German government should take a stronger role in combating international Nazi sympathies, as their predecessor seeded it, but it is not the responsibility of an American company the way protecting American politics from modern foreign interference is in the modern context. If Nazi sympathizers gain a foothold in politics, it is not to the advantage of modern Germany. Modern Germany is not acting to seize control of the United States; Russia is.

I did my thesis on this about ten years ago and a lot of people realize they're trans the first time they encounter a story or image or actual trans person of their approximate gender who is presented in a way that is sympathetic or relatable or just not actively stigmatizing. Trans men cite photographs a lot, seeing a trans man one time and instantly going "oh that's it, me too." Those stories used to be about rifling through porn magazines in gay shops. Now they're about movie stars.

Would love to read this thesis!

Going to add that fiction which had sexual abuse and communities which played around with it as a writing topic are the very things that protected me from irl sexual abuse when I was a teenager. I was in a dicey situation, and realized that while my situation did not match up to any of the superficial or textbook cases mentioned in passing (if at all) through school, it matched up a LOT to what I'd learned about irl sexual abuse through works of fiction and the rhetoric of my communities. I got out of that situation and dodged what was, in retrospect, one hell of a nasty bullet. If it hadn't been for that "nasty" fiction and those "nasty" communities, I would very likely have been abused, and subject to further violence spiraling out from that abuse.
