The worst person you could ever meet in your lifetime still has a favorite breakfast cereal.
I knew a rapist who was an absolute ride-or-die friend to his gamer bros. Like, give the last dollar from his pocket to a friend who got a flat tire, and then turn around and go rape a Freshman that evening.
I knew a vicious child abuser who wept like a baby when her dog died.
The nastiest human being on the planet nevertheless feels obscurely melancholy sometimes, or has high spirits when they step out doors on the first warm day of spring, or has opinions on their favorite TV show and which side the toilet paper should hang on and whether or not the room should be cold or warm when you go to sleep.
We're all still just people. Complex, with fully-realized interior worlds.
None of that will save you from becoming a monster, if you decide to do monstrous things.
None of it makes you exempt from the consequences of monstrosity.
Conversely, it's fine to recognize harmful people should be removed from power and still think about them affectionately, as long as you don't let it affect the former. Caring about them might even help them change for the better.
Fiction is a good medium for exercising those anti-dehumanization muscles. You can appreciate President Snow as a loving grandfather and understand that he's a monster who must be removed from power. Magneto shouldn't be let out of his plastic prison, but Xavier still cares about him as a dear friend and visits him for chess games. Steven Universe removes hostile Gems from power until they can be cured of aggressive tendencies and never stops trying to redeem them. Most of the villains on The Boys absolutely must be stopped but also have sympathetic inner lives borne of trauma, and a few of them do get redemption arcs.
Okay, today is Speak Your Own Language Day, so I should be speaking Spanish, HOWEVER I want to use this day of language learning and appreciation to explain something about how Spanish works, and Hispanic people already know that so it wouldn't make much sense to explain it in Spanish, which is why just for this post I'm gonna use English.
I'm gonna be talking, of course, of grammatical gender, because of this viral image:
I'm sure you've seen an image like this floating around and people crying about how having non-binary be translated with a feminine and masculine form depending on usage defeats the purpose of the term.
But it doesn't!!!
Spanish is not like English, it has ✨grammatical gender✨ which has nothing to do with gender identity whatsoever. It's not that we believe chairs are female and stools are male, our grammar is just like this. Every word has a grammatical gender and there must be grammatical gender concordance. Thus, non-binary must have both a feminine and masculine form to use depending with which word you're pairing it.
Let's say you want to talk about a "non-binary person". 'Person' in Spanish is 'persona' a grammatically feminine word (despite its usage being gender neutral and encompassing people of any gender, as I said, grammatical gender ≠ gender identity). Because 'persona' is a grammatically feminine word, you have to apply grammatical concordance accordingly, and so to say "non-binary person" you would say "persona no binaria".
Now let's say you want to talk about "non-binary gender". 'Gender' in Spanish is 'género' a grammatically masculine word, and because of that to say "non-binary gender" you would say "género no binario".
See? It's not about grammatically imposed misgendering, it's about how this language is built.
But Shine, I hear you say, that's all nice and good, but how do I refer to my non-binary friend? And well, dear reader, you're in luck because I'm not only Spaniard but also non-binary myself.
In Spanish 'friend' (like a whole lot of words) has a feminine and masculine form. When those words are used to refer to people, grammatical gender does match gender identity. For the most part. And broadly speaking, feminine words are associated with the vowel -a, and masculine with the vowel -o (this is not universal, there are exceptions to this, I'm trying to paint the broad picture to give you a general idea).
So what about gender neutral? Well, officially we don't have one. The Real Academia Española doesn't recognize it... But the RAE isn't word of god, it compiles usage, so the more a term is used, the more chances it will be officially recognized. Not using a term because it's not officially recognized is actively detrimental to the goal you want to achieve.
Okay, not an official gender neutral, but what have we come up with? Well, at least in Spain, it's associating gender neutral to the vowel -e. So you have the femenine ella/la/-a, the masculine él/lo/-o, and the gender neutral elle/le/-e.
Now time for practical examples!
"My friend, David, is a boy." 🇬🇧 → 🇪🇸 "Mi amigo, David, es un chico."
"My friend, Liz, is a girl." 🇬🇧 → 🇪🇸 "Mi amiga, Liz, es una chica."
"My friend, Alex, is non-binary." 🇬🇧 → 🇪🇸 "Mi amigue, Alex, es no binarie."
And that's how you do it!! At least in queer friendly spaces in Spain, can't speak for other places. I have seen the 'x' thrown around to make gender neutral in Spanish, but -e is way more intuitive for spoken language, so I like it better.
But anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk and remember I generalized a lot when doing this. If you're learning Spanish I can only wish you good luck in dealing with our bullshit if you come from English, and assure you that once you internalize our orthography rules you will never again mispronounce a word you read for months before you hear it spoken (we have a very consistent spelling/pronunciation system, gotta be one of my favourite things about my language).

Actually you SHOULD make problematic content. You SHOULD explore dark or taboo topics. You SHOULD have a space where you can cope with your traumas or explore sensitive topics in a way that doesn't hurt anyone.
Also you should make problematic content for funsies. You don't need to have had trauma or need to be coping in order to explore dark creativity. You can just be a human who wants to explore dark and taboo topics because you want to. That's completely normal, btw.
Every single person on this planet thinks about dark and taboo things. It's literally the most normal thing in the world.
Go draw the horror porn and be free.
we should all be more like david cronenberg and write fucked up stuff. For Funsies

Hi there, @goingrampant. I've really enjoyed your work in the past be it your videos or writtern-word essays, you do a really good job at media analysis from an intersectional-feminist perspective.
Just a little note but I've noticed with some of the content of your posts concerning the Israel-Palestinian conflict and other matters, are you a Zionist?
Please don't take this the wrong way, know it's a very complicated matter and there's a lot nuance involved that should be discussed but I would prefer a simple yes or no answer. Just be assured that I stand with both my Muslim and Jewish sisters.
Regardless, I respect you as a human being and creator.
I am a political anarchist. I believe in no states, no borders, and freedom of movement for all. Living in their ancestral homeland is important for many Jews, and they should be allowed to do so, providing they do not displace existing inhabitants (Tel-Aviv was built where no one else was living, while other Israeli cities were conquered). Jews should not be forced to go there if they prefer living in diaspora. Palestinians should likewise be allowed in their ancestral homeland, provided they do not displace existing inhabitants in areas that were not conquered. No one has the right to rid the area of people of another religion or ethnicity. Acts of murder, rape, etc. should be prosecuted regardless of the grievances motivating them.
I don't think I'm a Zionist. My personal understanding of Zionism growing up was people trying to get Diaspora Jews to move to Israel out of a belief that the Diaspora should be dissolved. My father considers them annoying in the same way missionaries trying to get you to change religion are annoying. I think people should live wherever they want.
Some might call me a Zionist because I don't think Jews in Israel should be expelled, killed, or raped. Some might call me an anti-Zionist because I think the state of Israel should be dissolved along with every other state and Palestinians allowed to live in the region. The term is very fluid and weaponized by extremists who want to pretend Israeli nationalist Zionism is the same as anti-genocide Zionism.
I have criticized Israel and promoted Palestinian charities. I'm not going to performatively denounce Israel when people are using abuses of the Israeli government or IDF to advocate putting American citizens in an internment camp for having unfavorable political beliefs refered to be the vague term Zionist and associated with an antisemitic conspiracy theory about Jews controlling the country. That is Nazi behavior.
More than anything, I'm an antifascist who believes in human rights. And, technically, Israeli diaspora because some of my ancestors were Israeli citizens who immigrated to the U.S., so I take personal offense when the most extreme anti-Zionists describe Israeli diaspora as ontological evil and advocate hunting down and raping or killing them. That is also Nazi behavior.
Your children's show unfortunately has the absolute wrong take on tackling fascism. Yeah the power of friendship angle is showing a dismal lack of understanding of Marxist theory or even intro-level Leninism. Yeah my only two interests are children's media and online leftist discourse so this is gonna be a problem.
Maybe the guy who thought Trump shouting about being the victim of a witch hunt meant that he was being hunted by witches?

I think insofar as Jax represents a side of Gooseworx she doesn't like, she has built Jax up as this punching bag for people to vocally express their hatred of as a form of self-harm, similar to 4chan transgender culture where they present themselves as unlovable people who will never pass and tear each other down for social self-harm.
I've gone. Not one for goodbyes, I thought it best to slip out quietly. Love to you all, Giles.
Rest in peace, Anthony Stewart Head (1954 – 2026)

Transphobia is about to be signed into law in the UK. We can fight this.
I am begging the UK trans community and its allies to attend the Mass Lobby at Parliament on June 25th, 11am-4pm, organised by Trans Solidarity Alliance.
Last year we broke the record for an LGBT+ mass lobby of Parliament. Will you help us break it again? Join us on 25th June 2026 to demand be
The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:
Last time I posted an attractive women doing some absolutely dope shit the lesbians claimed her and you know what? Fair... but this... this is for the bisexuals

Rip Anthony Stewart Head.
Here's an amazing story about him that I read years ago and never forgot.
I'd hoped to meet him at a convention, myself, one day.
Tired: J.K. Rowling supporting a woman with anti-trans views. Wired: Buffy actor Anthony Stewart-Head quietly going above and beyond for his
I was sad to hear the news of his passing, but this was lovely to read.
I keep remembering these lines from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
‘what do you want me to say?’
‘Lie to me.’
‘… Nobody ever dies.’
Thoughts on the TADC finale:
My theories were blown out of the water. I expected a big twist akin to those in Evangelion, which Gooseworx indicated was an influence, but it was more of a simple plotline with deep introspection like a play. Which is fine. If I want to explore those ideas, fanfiction is right there, and I suspect the finale was written knowing people would write fanfiction following up on loose plot threads.
There's an interesting tone shift, so it's less cartoony and more real, visceral. It's like after they realize they're uploaded minds, they feel more human than ever. The Jax actor feels like he's not doing a Jax voice, just sounding like a guy in a Jax avatar. Which makes Jax's insistence that he's a cartoon character feel like an even more desperate excuse to cover up his insecurities.
Or, rather, her insecurities. Jax being a trans woman is heavily implied if not explicitly stated. A song using female pronouns plays over her big scene, so the plot frames her as a her even if she refuses to take the plunge.
Jax... is a piece of work. Sympathetic, someone worth saving, but such a terrific asshole, you don't particularly want to put in the effort. Which is, of course, the point. Deeply insecure people drive people away to protect themselves from the potential of feeling hurt, but they really want a friend to fight for them. The problem is, the insecure people become more intensely unlikable to further push their friends away, and if they don't push through that, the insecure people only take it as confirmation that they should be closed off and descend into deep depression and aggression. Such it is with Jax and her friends Ribbit and Pomni.
I've met people like that. I might have been someone like that in my more intense stages of mental illness (there are memory issues, so I don't know for sure). It's a trait of BPD, among others. It's a plotline I've seen in Haibane Renmei, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Steven Universe, and this is the first time I've seen it... fail. Jax refuses to be saved by the power of love and descends into the depressed purgatory of abstraction, only showing the slight sign of possibly getting better in the future when the abstractions get put in a comfortable environment and stop being aggressive. And that's more realistic. It's sad, but that's what people are like; they need to go at their own pace.
One of the backlashes to the finale is people thinking Jax is too cruel in employing social ostracism to push Ribbit away, which, along with one of Jax's personalities strangling Pomni, makes Jax look like a sadistic psychopath not worth saving. That is what Jax wants you to think. That is her armor, guarding her insecurity at feeling something. Pomni pushing through that is also what Jax wants.
Because Jax never explicitly says she's a woman and employs misogyny as a means of pushing people away and refusing to address her own femininity, cisgender audiences frame the character as unambiguously male and interpret Jax's abuses in the framework of a man abusing women, but it's more like she's an alpha bitch Regina George type using feminine bullying tactics and pretending at misogyny. Denying Ribbit friendship as revenge and to feel safe from the possibility of Ribbit hurting Jax through gossip is extremely feminine. That's the form female abuse often takes. Jax therefore cannot be judged as a male villain, just a complicated female villain.
Interestingly, Reki in Haibane Renmei is the only other BPD-coded character to push people away using such tactics. When Willow tries to push away Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she uses more masculine tactics of physical violence. So does Steven when he turns into a kaiju in Steven Universe. It's Jax to take the feminine form of bullying, and she is more biting than Reki. Maybe that seems worse when it comes from a character seen as male just because men don't typically act like that with that degree of efficacy.
Anyway, trying to delete Caine was apparently the kick in the teeth needed to get him to realize that he was abusive, and he does the work necessary to recover and mend ties with the group. I guess Bubble was the blue AI, and by disentangling himself from him, Caine (the red AI) loses his AM tendencies.
In the end, not every question is answered; not everyone is saved, but there is emotional fulfillment. There is hope for the future. And the rest is fanfiction.
