Fic summary: What if someone tried to stop the wing clipping in the ACOTAR universe.
Did... did you not read the book? Or is your head so far up Nesta's ass (because of course that's who was going to take care of the problem according to the tags) that you couldn't hear the part where Rhys repeatedly tried to stop it but is defied at every turn? How about the part where those who did comply went back to it as soon as he's enslaved UTM?
ISTFG some people have selective memories. Or no ability to understand nuance or how systemic oppression actually works.
The thing with the Illyrians and wing clipping is that it's more complicated than just saying 'it's illegal now you can't do it'. Rhys is fighting a battle against systemic sexism that's been going on for millennia. On top of that, he's considered an outsider by the Illyrians because he's a half-breed. And he only has Cassian to help him enforce it because Azriel refuses to go there. And it's not like Cassian is respected there either.
For those saying he doesn't 'do enough'. Do you have any idea of what it takes to run a country? Because you're forgetting that Rhys isn't just High Lord to Illyria. He's High Lord to the entire Night Court. Which if we assume Prythian is the UK, that makes the NC Scotland. There's evidence to suggest that right before the Black Death, Scotland had a population of up to a million people.
ON TOP OF THAT. Look at the real world. Systemic oppression is more than just laws. Racism has been illegal for decades in some countries (well it's basically legal again in the US) yet is still very present. Same for sexism. And homophobia. And most types of bigotry.
Rhys has pointed out more than once that he can't change their minds. Well he could, but he won't. Because then it won't really be change. And he's right. If he wants real, lasting change, he has to convince those who benefit from the way things are to give up that privilege.
We don't know what a typical lifespan is for fae, but we do know that Rhys's father was 900 when he met his mother. And while we don't know how soon after this Rhys was born, we do know that it was at least four or five decades after that that his father died. And it's implied that he was still physically fit at that point, since he went to Spring himself. And Devlon is still in power and was the camp lord when Rhys, Cass, and Az were boys. So Rhys and the IC haven't been dealing with a rotating roster of camp lords in Illyria. It's most likely been the same group with a few exceptions.
In the hands of a writer more capable than SJM, this could be a good allegory for real life oppression and the continuous fight for equality. In all honesty she could've left this out of the books entirely and it wouldn't change anything. But she chose to leave it in and left it as a dangling thread (remember that nothing past WaR was supposed to exist).
I'm not saying that what Rhys is doing is working. But what I am saying is that it's more complicated than what many are making it out to be. Fandom and mob mentality have a habit of villainizing people to the point that a minor infraction gets turned into an irredeemable offense.
That's not what's going on in this specific case. But people are complicated and complex. And there's too much nuance in this world to boil someone down to a few actions they made.
They're spending too much time projecting onto their favorite toxic abuser to do anything but villainize those who are "mean" to her. They don't have any brain power left to actually analyze the text. Or in this case, understand a few sentences.

You CANNOT say that about Neil Gaiman, bc not only is he alive, but he still makes money on anything he was ever a part of. Yes, he's no longer involved with the production of Good Omens and most companies have cut ties with him, but if you buy a copy of Coraline, or Sandman, or anything he has ever written, he is getting that money
