yknow it's kinda fucked up how you can get religous trauma from atheism
It's because atheism, or perhaps more correctly anti-theism, is a religion. It's not actually the absence of religion, that's agnosticism. Atheism is the belief that there are no gods, which is an act of faith regardless of evidence.
People who don't have a dog in the fight don't mock people who believe differently from them. Abusing people because you think what they believe is stupid and what you believe is smart is the same shit fundamentalist Christians do.
The actual intellectual position is admitting you don't know and are open to evidence of any kind, but there is no evidence for or against right now. And I don't think anyone's ever been traumatized by that. Some people who believe that call themselves atheists and that's fine, but it's very different from what people like Richard Dawkins preach.
But I sure as fuck get nervous when someone says they're an atheist, until I know whether or not they mean they're confident everyone but them is wrong about the nature of reality, you know, like a religious fundamentalist. I can see why being raised in that would be traumatic. That sucks.
To put in other words, it's kind of a variation of the "anti-bad guy squad" thing. Thought along the lines of: "If religion is abusive, being anti-religion means you can't be abusive!"
