Shouldn't the term really be event horizon anyways? I thought the point of the black hole allusion was to refer to an irreversible transition; where the machine god has such perfect control over its domain that it could not ever be unmade. I can see that point of no return being earlier than one might realize in the moment but definitely not this early.

I made bad consciousness posts like a year ago because I was hung up on dualism but I think I get why I was confused so I am here to Atone.
The main source of confusion to me was that if you privilege consciousness like I wanted to, you need to find some way for it to act on the physical world. Otherwise, it's completely disconnected and I should not be able to type or think about it. But I was still very convinced that there had to be something mysterious, because consciousness is so immediately witnessable. The most even.
So I think the problem is how we are accustomed to thinking of things we witness as being very concretely real. If I have an apple, I can see, touch and taste the apple, and I will be very convinced that the apple is real and it is one cohesive apple-natured object. But there are no such thing as apples as far as the universe itself is concerned. What would that even mean? Whatever the universe 'cares' about is probably particles or fields or something like that. On that level, there is no boundary between apple and not apple—that distinction is made by us creatures. I don't think consciousness is really any different. We witness our own internal brain activity, we call it consciousness, and then ascribe that same level of concrete realness as we to do things like apples.
Then we run into problems, because while the apple has no god given boundaries, it's not really that complicated to say, well it's that particular region of space, and be more or less satisfied with that. For consciousness, our brains are far too complicated for this, there's no clean spot to draw the lines, so it's very easy to be convinced that there must be something mysterious happening. But I think now that all this means is we failed to draw the lines we wanted. The universe does not care about our lines, and so this failure does not indicate any deeper mystery.
I still think we should keep trying to figure out where to draw these lines, but there's no correct answer, in about the same way as there is no perfect definition of an apple, or a sandwich, or morality or what have you. I still believe in apples and sandwiches and that morality is important.

One of the reasons I insist so much with space is because it does not start or end there. You might say okay, but people who don't like space just don't like billionaries like Elon Musk or think there's other priorities. And it does sound it's so expensive and a waste (it's not) and all that so there is an argument there.
Except that, if you were a nerdy kid like me, then a student and then somebody who works in science, you know it does not stop there. That mindset does not stop with spaceships. You will find those people who say "there's other priorities" to begin saying the same about astronomy made by Earth telescopes, about physics, about sea exploration, about nature conservation, and it doesn't stop with STEM, it continues with history, with art, with philosophy.
The "I think there are other priorities", very, very quickly becomes a "who cares". And you see it everywhere in science. In the name of priorities, in the name of cutting down spending and focusing on "practical" things, on profitable things, there creeps incuriosity, anti-intellectualism, and soon after, conservative and reactionary thinking finds its rotting log to mushroom in. Societies that don't think about the future get stuck trying to return to the past, societies that don't think about anything but what gives profit become the easiest to exploit.
I'm not saying you have to support space exploration and science in general blindly. I'm saying you have to be very, very concerned about what happens when people adopt the opposite mindset of "who cares". It's not a good thing. You do not want it to be a thing.

How about an emoji that means Zendaya okayyyy. my fingers dripping with blood from carving out the svg files with my bare knuckles I move closer and someone hits a button that’s silently call security but I don’t care I keep going my pitch. The “cancelled” emoji will make yuor engagement rise I am saying. This one is a work in progress but I am calling her Linda. Wham “vaseline emoji” wham “gender neutral mouse” wham “standup but the comic is bombing so he start doing mean aggressive crowdwork” yoir era is over now I am the consortium now I cackle I take out my poloroid and snap a quick photograph of your scared and pale face as your blood vacates it no doubt flowing downward because of sexual feeling. I shake the photo to make it develop faster but it doesn’t work (look it up) and there are no more army on the way. Just you and me and the computer. It dings to completion but I have one more file to add. I look at the picture in my hand. You look… beatuifoul. I think I will call thjis one.. come uppance… I said and slam it into the disk drive. You smile and we embrace. All is forgiven because I give you the highest honor there is I have make you An Emoji which should be the heist honor in my opinion. Do you remember when they offered jordan peel the role of the poop in the emoji movie and he was so insulted he decided to make Get Out do you remember well those days are gone. Being an emoji in my regime is it like a presidential Medal of Honor speaking of which we are giveing a speech at Unicode plaza the crowd is cheering and the president is there but this one is Nice. They saw my vision. No longer will the consortium limit human emotion to an exclusive set of several hundred image now emoji is for everyone. And one more thing the eggplant is no longer “lewd” we can make a new emoji of “lewd eggplant” for placate the freaks but some of us regulars just want to say vegetable without everyone thinks penis all the time. You know as someone who was raised atheist but then converted to Christianity in my childhood and who has some friends who also used to be atheist or agnostic but converted to Christianity at different points in their lives I really don’t believe some of these confessions of supposed “former atheists” you see sometimes in church gatherings.
Especially the ones who claim they used to do Satan worship. I really don’t believe those ones. Closest thing we ever used to do to Satan worship in my house was watch Halloweentown.
