“I Think I Finally Understand”

Gooodddddd the divorced rabbot stocks are doing crazy things right now. Like I am LIVING for the way that they’re clearly SO close and have SUCH a degree of emotional intimacy and a long personal history and YET also this palpable sense of always holding themselves back from one another. Like the way Jack pushes and pushes that Robby needs to come back, needs to promise to come back, but he still lets him go with nothing but that promise—no concrete action, no concrete intervention, no “share you location with me, take me with you, stay with me, don’t go at all”. No demands, like he doesn’t have feel like he can ask for that much. God and the bitterness that’s leaking out of Robby’s every pore when he throws Jack’s SWAT hobby in his face, like they’ve had this argument a thousand times before and every time they have it meaner. And don’t even get me STARTED on “I’m still your emergency contact” still since WHAT??? The insane answer is since the divorce, but the real implication is that there IS a distance between them that both of them are aware of. The hug, which is this torturous mix of sincerity and self-consciousness, the way they both look around like they’re being watched, the way they grab onto eachother but don’t quite lean together, the head bump, the awkward duration. The bids for connection, over and over, and the refusal to take it all the way. The way they work together so seamlessly in one moment, in tune with every word and signal, then escape and don’t meet eachother’s eyes the next.
