what ppl defending kids on ipads don’t seem to understand is that there are other ways to keep kids occupied. my mom had a whole bag full of little toys and games for me to play with while waiting in lines at disney world. once your kid is like 7 or 8 they can read a book. they can color. or they can literally just sit there and imagine things. i did that a lot as a kid.

Heck, everyone my age made potions out of mud and grass when I was a kid. Daisy chains. Leaf crowns. "Who can find the biggest stick/coolest rock/prettiest flower/tallest tree". You don't even have to buy them anything, you can just take them outside, and teach them the games you played when you were little. Are we not still feeding frozen peas to ducks at ponds, or playing hide and seek, or learning card games? My partner and I play games like Little Guy all the time, and every kid I've taught the game to has loved it. Most kids don't WANT to sit and mindlessly engage with youtube videos, they have more fun if you show them things, and teach them things, and play with them.
