Wolves are able to go wherever they please but it's considered polite to make yourself known if a prominent pack is established in the area. (As we learned from Anton's most recent audio. We can also infer from both Milo & Darlin's families moving and joining the Shaw Pack then not only Darlin's family but Amanda's leaving and Amanda moving to South Dakota to join her dad's Pack)

But when they come home and when the doors close, it’s just them. Just David and his mate.

And suddenly that is all that matters.

He doesn’t need them to be put together, to work out the logistics of the next pack trip, to lead a team in a project.

And they don’t need him to be an alpha, to put on a stoic face and constantly figure out ways to maintain the pack’s reputation whilst scheduling and networking for more security gigs.

So I think it’s really romantic how David proposed after everyone left the solstice party. When all their duties are finished, and it’s just the two of them. David knows Angel for who they are, not who they project themselves to be. And Angel knows David through all the ups and downs in his life and has stayed with him and loved him through all of it.

He doesn’t need their love to be one of status or public appearances. He loves them for them.

So after it all ends and they’re the rawest version of themselves, he shows them the ultimate form of love with a ring and a heartfelt question.

And when he’s on one knee, Angel sees their whole life together flash before their eyes. The love he’s shown them every single day. His open arms as they collapse into him after long days at work.

If eternity with him meant late nights cuddled together, eating bowls of ice cream while playing halo, it’s the best thing they could ever ask for.

Gavin’s heart swelled. It was all so soft, so domestic. Everything was perfect.

He wanted to get closer to them to savour this feeling, to feel them envelope him in their peace and love.

He kissed the crown of their head before carefully shifting them to lay on their side. Making sure they didn’t stir, he tangled their legs and held them close, face buried in the crook of their shoulder as they lay bodies curling seamlessly around each other’s. Their chests pressed together, he could feel their heart beat. He tapped into a bit of magic and let his core beat in the same rhythm, syncing with Freelancer.

Gavin loosened his arms a little when he felt them squirm, and smiled when they cuddled closer. The fact that their body subconsciously searches for his, even in their sleep made him melt.

He’s never been loved to purely like this before. To be desired like this without any expectation. To have someone want his company purely for who he is, not because of what he could offer.

But when it’s one of those huge downpours coupled with frequent close thunder and lightning, it still makes them jump.

They’re glad they’re at home when the eye of the storm approached.

They were sitting in David’s lap, his legs on either side of them as he held the remote in front. With every clap of thunder they winced, subconsciously trying to wriggle themselves further back into David’s chest.

David paused the game, setting the remote aside to hold them, his arms wrapping around their waist and holding them tight. His size meant he was able to envelope them almost fully, head leaning on their shoulder and legs propping up so he caged their whole body with his.

“I’m here, Angel. Nothing will hurt you. Not while I’m here.”

Angel nodded against him, hands gripping his forearms. David smiled when he felt their heart rate calm, and the smell of fear gradually dissipated from his mate.

They looked up at him, crown of their head against his chest.

“…can we play minecraft?”

David chuckled. It was such an Angel question. But he was also glad they felt good enough to ask.

He quickly saved and exited his game before opening up minecraft and passing them the remote.

The night was spent with Angel working on their latest project (“this’ll be our house”, they said.) and David watching while giving them some design suggestions. Gradually the storm faded into the distance, either physically or simply because they stopped paying attention to it, but that didn’t matter.
