has anyone ever considered lyrium ghost meredith?
humans are believed to have arrived in thedas in about -3100 ancient, which i believeee is just under 4000 years ago from our âmodernâ thedas. elves and dwarves had already been there for thousands of years by this point and humans were very much the last ones to the party
we know that the dalish believe that humansâor at least the first humansâcame from par vollen in the north. thereâs no information on if they originated in par vollen (which is an island chain. thatâs crazy. for some reason i totally thought it was just the edge of a northern continent) or if they came from anywhere before that. weâre told par vollen was home to an ancient human civilisation before the qunari ever arrived there, people who built pyramids and âvast citiesâ. the humans of par vollen are so disregarded now by the andrastian world that itâs interesting to think of them as probably the first defining human culture that the elves and dwarves of thedas glimpsed across the sea
iâm inclined to take the dalish elvesâ word for it that the first human settlers in thedas were from there, as starting from the north does seem to geographically make sense, since the first humans settled in the tevinter region, along the coast of the nocen sea. these were a particular tribe called the âneromeniansâ
hereâs a map for reference. the nocen sea and its coast is the dip directly south of seheron. itâs interesting to consider why the neromenians didnât settle in seheron or rivain instead. itâs possible that a) the elves lived in those places so close to arlathan and fended off human settlement, b) the human civilisation in par vollen had colonies in those places and the neromenians were notable for being the first to fully break off, or c) itâs just tevinter-centric later history that leads us to believe the neromenians are âfirstâ while the histories of seheron and rivain are ignored
and let's not forget. officially in my dragon age character lore, valka is always inhabited by a spirit of justice. because of flemeth's interference after ostagar. which means we get another justice/vengeance exploration

idk i just be missing her
guys this isnât Isabela đđđ im sorry⌠its my aeducan
the only area where valka isn't at least pretending to be civil is when it comes to alistair. she straight up doesn't respect that guy. so after she killed connor in redcliffe she had that fight with alistair about it and even tho she pretended to be calm, she was so mad afterwards that she just. straight up isn't talking about his mother's amulet. out of sheer pettiness. she's keeping that shit for blackmail or something later
valka's big problem is that she read a lot about the surface in books, so she knows a lot. except books are lying sometimes. so she knows how to handle zevran (employ that guy!) bc she read about antivan crows as part of the Surface Politics knowledge, etc. and then she has a complete internal breakdown when it turns out the dalish are nothing like she'd thought they'd be and it makes her think that she looks stupid
that being said. i had trouble figuring out which main quests to do first but i think it makes sense for valka to try redcliffe (center of human non-loghain power) first, and then when that fails, she turns east on the road to find genitivi in denerim (and to pretend she gives a fuck about the urn of sacred ashes), only to be ambushed by fucking zevran. and then be like you know what. might as well talk to the dalish first. maybe they're normal (they are, compared to the books valka has read, not.)
the thing with valka is. if i made her #mycersei then none of the companions would be there because she would just self destroy everything. and we gotta stop the blight. and also if we're being real that's not really who valka is. like, she straight up doesn't tell anyone she's orzammar royalty because the shame of being kicked out of orzammar is too much (AND also these people aren't worth knowing).
so valka is being more polite than she would necessarily have to be because she's convinced herself that she's a good normal person who just has to grit her teeth and play the Game and network. and get power and status that way so she can be someone again before she marches into orzammar. because the only way she knows how to be a person is to be a leader somehow

Read this Briala fic NOW.
The gift I received in @arlathanxchange this year just really blew me away. It's 24,000 words of Briala-centric character study, with cameos throughout that made me scream. It begins with the premise: what if Solas had been the one to save Briala from bandits as a teenager? and follows the ripples out all the way to Veilguard.
three arrows - [bansheep] Oneshot.
Rating: G. On the road to Halamshiral, it is not an Agent of FenâHarel who saves her from bandits â it is the Dread Wolf himself. Briala asks him to teach her his ways.
It turns out the amazing bansheep and I are just throwing Briala fics back and forth at each other and it's the best!!!
For @evanurisweek days 1 and 2: Elgar'nan and Mythal.
At the dawn of the world as it will be, Mythal and Elgar'nan dream themselves into existence.
Warnings for canon-typical violence, mentions of incest, cannibalism, dubious consent, and imperialism.
Her beast of a husband comes heaving, impossible. He is a thousand eons tall, a shape so great it encompasses all that was written, was made. Myth made flesh, and how wondrous he shines! Like a creature unspeakable. He will be made of the earth. He will be made of the sun.
But then again, what's a little war crimes among friends?

A list of potential cures for the Calling, that we know about, that BioWare has apparently forgotten
Andraste's grace: it's not specified whether the flower the kennelmaster has you pick in the Korcari Wilds is Andraste's grace or if the game just needed a one-off asset and decided to reuse one they already had. However, in the dark future in DAI, Leliana is found to have unusual tolerance for the taint, and in DAO she talks about her mother pressing her laundry with dried Andraste's grace flowers, so it makes you wonder. Anyway, the flower stops Barkspawn becoming a ghoul and seems to make them immune to the taint from that point on.
Maric's longsword: he finds it in the Deep Roads and is suprised it isn't covered in the same Blight-rot as everything else - until, that is, he touches the sword to a patch of it and sees it wither away. Whether it's the dragonbone the sword is made of or the runes on the blade is difficult to say, though if it was just the dragonbone then it would make sense for that to be a more well-known property of the material (and would have been an interesting reason for why dragons were hunted to extinction). If Alistair carries it with him, doesit slow the progession of the taint through his body? Does he know its effects, and give it to the HoF to help keep them safer on their journey to find a permanent cure?
That obsidian dagger Duncan finds in The Calling: the dagger belonged to First Enchanter Remille - who also gave the expedition members brooches that accelerated the spread of the taint. iirc the both the dagger and the brooches are made by the Architect with Blight magic, which means the darkspawn magisters have more knowledge of how the Blight works than the Chantry attributes to them.
Whatever the fuck is going on with Avernus: he hasn't managed to cure himself yet, but he's managed to make it to 200 and the Warden can let him continue his experiments if they don't kill him - and he'd be a really useful resource if the Warden later wanted to send him other potential cures for testing.
Dragons: they have an ability to isolate the Blight in their bodies by forming crystaline cysts around the initial infection to stop it spreading. Useful if it can be more widely applied. Also, it's implied that Maric's reaver blood, which Calenhad gained by mixing his blood with a dragon's, is what somehow cured Fiona of the taint, kinda like a reverse STI, BUT in the Deep Roads they went through an area where the walls were coated in a pale, chalky substance suspiciously devoid of Blight-rot and she touched it, so I'm a bit suspicious of that.
Blood magic: makes sense since the taint is a problem that starts with infected blood. There are two major instances in DA canon where blood magic has been used to purge the taint from an object or being (both by elves btw). The first is Isseya using it to draw the taint out of a clutch of unhatched griffon eggs, which she says is only possible because the taint hasn't yet taken over the hatchlings' bodies to the same extent that it had with the adult griffons. The second instance is Merrill purging the Blighted eluvian in DA2. It's insane that Anders - who is a reluctant Warden and who possibly knows the HoF seeks a cure - isn't more excited about this. She literally removed the Blight from a fully tainted object. Since Isseya proved the same can be done with living tissue, it's probably the closest we've come to an actual cure, but since it also took years there's no telling if it could be a practicaly solution for all Wardens

[ID: a digital drawing of Merrill from Dragon Age 2 holding a bouquet of daisies. Her eyes are closed and sheâs smiling as she holds the flowers up to the side of her face with both hands. Behind Merrillâs head is a sunburst, sheâs surrounded by white symmetrical lines and constellations, wearing a green dress with a dark green cape draped over her shoulders. End ID]
what does happen to abominations when they die. does the spirit continue to possess the corpse. does it get sent back to the fade. if an abomination is killed does the spirit get killed (in the sense that spirits are splintered when they die) too or only the mortal host. where does justice go if anders dies. what about the abominations in that physically change form when the spirit takes over. how does that work anyway
#(manifests in the corner of your bedroom like the ghost of christmas past)#david gaider heavily implied that while anders is 100% dead if hawke stabbed him. justice is almost definitely still alive#i always took it to mean that justice would take full control of anders' body but like. because their souls are so intertwined by that point#for all intents and purposes anders just fucking got back up and walked it off LOL (via @sha-brytols)
okay. hold on. okay. so this gets into soul stuff too. souls are⌠itâs nebulous on how they work. i have worse posts about this here and here.
