midst is literally just a compilation of people being rude to jonas spahr

im 2 eps out from the s3 midst finale and frankly i want to see more people explore how fucked up jonas & phineas's relationship is. is it tender and bittersweet when they air grievance and then kiss? yes! but theres also a lifetime of baggage there that cannot be resolved in a few days, a few months even. phin still sees spahr as a superior to some degree, he still has to do right by him, be subservient to him. and jonas- he fuckin. dawg hes also got issues and we dont see many of them but he has to break down his suave personality and glimmering exterior to get to the messy insides. hes like a mirrorhawk, get him out of his beautifully deadly mica shell and youll see this mess of meat and life in the middle. the way spahr would reveal his insides but only when hes in control, only when he can perform it in just the right way. there is still a power dynamic between the two and i think that more people should talk about that.

like you can take the man out of the trust but you cannot take the trust out of the man. that shit is like shattered glass, it can splinter microscopically through your palm and while you can remove the ones you can see, they leave a wound. and what about the pieces you cant see, gently making their way deeper into you as time goes on. festering, creating a larger problem just under the surface. i'm not convinced that phineas would not still kill for spahr, that if he thought its what spahr wanted he would go and fuck shit up on a cosmic scale again. phineas was able to think about his misdeeds in his time away from spahr but for the two of them to be back together? so soon? we saw phineas fuck up and grab lark. because he could get jonas from it. we saw jonas steer the confrontational conversation with phineas to get the response he wanted. not to say that i think the two shouldn't be together, i think they can work through it, i just want to see the mess that is working through it.

a cute little meta thing i really enjoy is when hal talks to his company, even though they're all NPCs, he is clearly addressing the other players(!!) at the table and they all respond in kind because they ARE his company they ARE his cast and they ARE putting this show together and setting their intentions together

anyway, it's now Captain Sad Eyes reporting for duty.
