I was thinking about the way most fan artists draw little Dick Grayson's clothes after he starts living at Wayne Manor, the way it's sort of that mix of jumpers, shirts, shorts and knee socks that brings in mind the 40s and I had the thought that while Bruce may not have had the idea of picking up clothes for Dick in the early days of taking him in. I mean Dick had clothes already, but kids at that age burn through clothes with wear, tear and growing. So I think, Alfred certainly took that responsibility on by himself. I thought maybe he styled Dick's new wardrobe after how Bruce dressed at that age but then, I thought what if all those little outfits had been Bruce's? Alfred, of the 'waste not, want not' mentality perhaps or maybe sentimental Alfred who just wanted to see them again, just giving Dick trunk after trunk of these well preserved clothes. And Bruce? Bruce doesn't even realise because mentally, he's blocked out all those little details of his past.

So I’m a Showman (gypsy from the fairground/circus) and do you know what makes this even funnier? That’s how we, culturally, dress our kids. It is completely normal for boys, at least until they’re about 10ish when they start to want to dress more grown up, to wear shorts and little knee high socks and patent shoes and shirts and jumpers casually. It’s what my brother grew up wearing, my dad, my cousins — that’s the standard for us. So Dick, being a gypsy from the circus, absolutely could have seen those clothes and just been like, ‘thank God, they have decent clothes!’ and thought absolutely nothing of it because that’s what he was used to anyway.

This was one of the biggest reasons my mother gave me Dick comics as a kid — because he looked and acted like us, and we so rarely got good rep.

it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kids’ heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like “enjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best it’s gonna get”. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? i’m tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 she’ll be so depressed she’s just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids don’t need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, it’s a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future that’s worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and i’m about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. i’m sorry you hate your life but you don’t get to dump your issues on these kids. don’t piss me off and leave these babies alone!

You know the whole Bruce can't cook schtick that we're all on? What if it's the opposite? Competent cook Bruce who loves making large, complicated meals for the family and loving dad Bruce who wants to feed his kids constantly. Bruce who bakes cookies for study groups, brings Tupperware full of soup, nourishing stews when the kids are sick or depressed or injured, visits with an entire cooler of meals prepped for their fridges. Bruce who cooks snacks and dinner before they go on patrol, fusses when the kids won't eat, knows all their preferences and allergies, Bruce who keeps ladling out extra servings because the kids aren't eating enough, Bruce who's love language is good food because that's what he had from Alfred.
