This is a bit of an out of the blue question, but I just realized that, in addition to being written by Kelley Puckett, the issues introducing Connor Hawke were actually edited by you! Connor is one of my favorite characters, tied with Cassandra Cain and Jason Todd, so - thanks so much for helping bring two of my favorites about. But I was wondering - I always read Connor as gay, & heard that he was originally supposed to be gay, but I can't find confirmation anywhere. Do you know if he was?
The way I remember it is this: we’d created a character who was very young and naïve, sexually, younger emotionally than his chronological age would have indicated, and who was at least a bit unsure of his own sexual identity. So my recollection is that we were going to have Kyle ask Connor if he was gay, and Connor was going to respond by very casually and very earnestly kissing Kyle, much to Kyle’s surprise, before deciding that, no, he must be straight after all. But that idea was nixed right quick by those up above.

"Why was there only one superhero on Earth-Prime?" Well, I suspect it has something to do with the fact that for a while in actual reality Superman was presented to the public as a real person, which reportedly led to the injury of children thinking they could do dangerous things and be saved by Superman or trying to imitate him. You can find multiple reports of children dying trying to fly like Superman, one of the first that may show up being a young boy in The New York Times from February 12th 1979, notably before the publication of Crisis On Infinite Earths.
Clark of Earth-Prime was a kid who discovered his powers only upon "taking a leap of faith", whereupon he happened to immediately meet his hero and be spirited away to another reality for a "final adventure", after which he was taken to "a paradise", ostensibly never to return. Does that sound like a euphemism to you, because it does to me.
This theory I think plays very well into his themes of comic grimness vs hope, why his "happy ending" crumbles and his heroes "fail" when the story slides to the grim end of the scale - most notably Golden Age Superman, who started the trend. It explains why he feels so betrayed on some deeper level ("it broke me, maybe forever") despite not wanting in the slightest to actually blame Superman for anything. You can't exactly be mad at your hero for not saving you if they were never real. It ties very neatly into his hatred of darkness in comics, obsession with giving everyone happy endings and retconning away consequences, particularly death. It would also add meaning to his comparison to Jason as a concept - Jason is a dead child whose death is frequently blamed on his own impulsiveness.

Once i read all of golden age and silver age and bronze age and pre-crisis in general and post crisis and new52 and rebirth and all the different events and crossovers and learn all of the writers’ histories so i am aware of their biases and influences when creating those stories and familiarise myself with the cultural/social/political climate of when those comics were written to be able to understand and analyse them well from both a watsonian and doylist perspective it’s over for you all
