I try not to fall into the "I never liked their work anyway" ditch when an artist/creator reveals themself to be a terrible person
BUT
a feeling I do have and will stand by is "While I enjoyed their work overall I did have some gripes that I overlooked out of affection and whimsy, but now that my loyalty is gone and my affection tainted there is nothing holding me back from enumerating my many grievances, to which the revelations of the creator's shittiness may or may not provide a new and infuriating context."
#such a good summation of this actually#because yeah there’s usually things that were always present#but which were easy to overlook or give the benefit of the doubt#that suddenly become relevant after a revelation about the creator#and it’s really not the same thing as the self-defensive “’I never liked it anyway’

Yeah man, this wizard sleepover is cozy. I just saw a guy gently clap his hands together and say "hot beverage conjuration" or something, and suddenly everyone was holding a perfect mug of their favorite warm drink in their hands. Nobody who was already sleeping even woke up, that's how cozy it is. I'm over here casting pillow and level 2 pyjamas. I think I just heard "power word: blanket fort" two groups over. I gotta get in there.
"Whimsy" is truly a wretched term. What maketh thee so carefree?

loved the very specific fuckery with "gendered" terms this chapter
reminder that gendered terms should be fucked with as often as possible and aren't cages you need to lock yourself or anyone else in

Ice beam is low-key a sauceless "standard" move for its type
Earthquake? That is THE ground move. The ground quakes beneath you.
Surf? A giant wave of water that your pokemon can ride. A thunderous tide. Invokes the ocean.
Thunderbolt? Arcing flashes of electricity zap you.
Flamethrower? Fire breath, fire throwing, an arc of propelled flame is classic.
Ice beam? It's a beam. Of ice. Could've been a gust of frigid wind, or a frost incursion, or being entombed in a glacial slab, but noooooo it's a beam. Of ice.
yes but it goes foowaaaa ting ting ting ting ting ting and i really like that part
Fuck you're right post cancelled
susie both hates sans and thinks sans is fucking funny lol
One thing I've been thinking/worried about is the fact that Ralsei's scenes are almost entirely skippable to the end of them straight up never happening, over and over.
In the Acid Tunnel of Love, you can never say It's Nice that Ralsei is Ralsei.
You can go the entirety of Chapter 3 without a positive Ralsei conversation.
In Chapter 4, whilst the room scene always has Kris affirm them, you can (and later on can) just avoid the scene entirely.
Most importantly in Chapter 4, you can choose the Keep Smiling option.
In chapter 5, whilst the Flowery scene always happens (albiet also potentially skippable from the Player's pov), the Hot Spring with Ralsei, too, can be skipped, and the right options are quite evasive to a lot of players.
Like, that's an entire ass main character you can avoid the development of almost wholesale. That's quite strange. Susie always unlearns her bs. Kris is always going to do the same things, Noelle always goes to the Festival with Susie and resists Carol's call. This is something unique to Ralsei.
And there's no consequences in either direction to this. In the positive side, Ralsei always gains their assertiveness. On the potentially negative, they're always the same with Kris. Do they understand that's not their words? It's all a bit inconsistent on what matters and what doesn't.
It's just a bit strange, and it's a consistent pattern at this point in time, 5 chapters in. Maybe a commentary on the players, allowing them to validate the ideology (and be ignored anyway?) What is the goal here?
The best goal I can think of is that, on a metanarrative level, being invested in Ralsei requires you to immerse yourself properly into Deltarune's world in such a way as to believe that Darkners are real and just as valuable as Lightners for the story. I don't think it's any coincidence that Noelle is much more popular and often in fan content used to replace Ralsei; she's a Lightner, so she's more real than him and thus ought to take his place.
That said, however, I think Ralsei is kinda the biggest victim of the main cast (though they all kinda suffer from it) of the game letting certain scenes be optional, because it's like you said; so many scenes must be mandated to have no serious consequence in the story. The last dialogue with him in 4, in hindsight, is unbelievably egregious in this way, because Kris acknowledging Ralsei's pain and sympathizing is huge for making them grow closer, while saying "Keep smiling" pushes them far apart... but actually, since it was optional, neither of them means literally anything past that point. Telling Ralsei to smile changes precisely zero text in Chapter 5, but at the same time, I don't think picking the other option does, either. It's such an important moment for his development, us either encouraging him to help him find footing or pushing him down even more at his worst, but now I'm left right alongside you asking why in a story context this is even here because neither choice does anything and you could just walk right past him in that hallway anyway.
Hell, I think one of the only times seeing a Ralsei scene actually does anything down the line is to make Susie add him to the punch card at the Festival if you chose talking to him over Susie in that one room in Chapter 3. It's incredibly frustrating because all these optional scenes can do wonders for not only helping us connect with his character but also fleshing out his dynamic with Kris... but his dynamic with Kris can't be much of anything if most of that dynamic can simply not happen. It's probably like you said, that with the game being the way it is that it's gonna make Ralsei develop no matter what we do to validate him as part of the narrative even if we try not to, but it's still really shoddy to me.

look at them go
Ever since I started watching Shiboyugi, I’ve headcanoned Yuki as having ASPD, and Cloudy Beach kind of cemented my thoughts about it. Throughout the series, I’ve noticed that Yuki doesn’t seem to care much about anything, not even herself, or her own goals, aside from her goal of winning 99 death games. Her emotions are muffled. She derives joy from nothing, and the only times she expresses any strong emotion is when she’s either genuinely afraid that she’s going to die, or when Hakushi is brought up. I’m almost certain that Hakushi is Yuki’s tolerated person (TP), as she’s the only person Yuki seems to genuinely care about. The other players? Unimportant, Yuki kills them without remorse whenever they get in her way, or hinder her own chances of survival, despite her claiming to have an altruistic play style. She’s friendly with players she’s met before, but is that enough to say that she cares about them? I don’t think so. Yuki’s survival always comes first. The world of death games is deranged and bloody, and even Yuki doesn’t seem to know why she keeps playing them sometimes, but the answer always boils down to Yuki wanting to complete the goal that the only person she cares about left behind.
